Alright, now concerning market things.
Separating methadone isomers doesn't really pay off (if anyone had a chance to have to separate, say, ephedrine isomers from racemic mixture, probably knows what I'm saying, the same way methadone isomers can be separated). Preparations with levomethadone are scarce nowadays.
Racemic methadone is more than good enough having its mu agonist effects with some weak blocking NMDA channels and monoamine transporters. It augments efficiency in pain management and drug maintenance. Lengthened QT interval hasn't been reported to be any major concern even with very long drug usage (tens of years). It's as simple as that why we don't have levomethadone widely available.
The thing with LAAM is different as it's an ester of an alcohol (methadol). Dextrorotatory isomer is of greater potency but levorotatory isomer has a more favored duration of action for maintenance. α-(+)-acetylmethadol would really be super potent (~6x LAAM), actually anything with 6R configuration would beat the rest in the series but I guess even concerning pain management what we really need are long-lasting ones and not more ultra potent stuff.
