Interesting differences between countries.

ohh another one today.. I mentioned Cordial.. no one knew what I was talking about.... Diluting Juice.. who would have thought?

Did you never have a teacher who wore shorts with the knee high socks?

Also my school uniform had shorts that we could wear.

Oh yeah, now that you mention it. I thought they had kept them from the 70s though with the rest of their clothes.

Hehe thanks but i'm Australian. I meant is it a brand name that has become so common that it is used to describe a product. Such as names like esky and biro.

Cordial isn't a brand name. I'd say Cottee's would be the most popular brand of cordial in Australia at least. I think they call it "squash" in the U.S. or just Kool-Aid. Kool-Aid is an example of what you were talking about though.

I have to add to this thread..............the way that Americans say........

Muhzda

Mitsuebeeshi

Aloominum

Regards the first 2, it would be interesting to know how the Japanese pronounce them.

As for Aloominum...........they are just wrong.

Don't they also say "Soo-baa-rue" with a the middle syllable being a long sound?

One weird thing in Italy was the buskers on the trains. Old guys would get on public trains and just start playing the violin, walking up and down the carriage asking for money.

Also the buskers in Spain are really cool. Las Ramblas has an incredible range of street art and performance, much more so than anything I've seen in Australia.

What do you wear with your shorts?

In the US it's (unfortunately) uncommon to not take ice with your beverage.

Cordial is basically a sugar drink with artificial and sometimes trace real flavours and its in concentrated form so you just add water.

generally at a rate of 5 parts water to one part cordial.

noooooooo - 4:1, especially if it's red flavour!

for those who don't know stupid american coinage infuriatingly have no numbers on them and are arbitrarily sized. :!

in bigger cities in china, traffic lights have countdown lights timing each change.

^I've seen lights in London with yellow lights under red lights which would signal the red light was almost done.

Only the mail carriers for private companies (E.g. UPS) wear shorts. How funny that would look for other workers lol.

Fine, laugh at me then. lol.

Here in Australia we have three lights at traffic lights.

In sydney the lights work as such............

Green means go
Orange means a red light is about to arrive and you must start to prepare to stop
Red means Stop.

The light will then go direct to green when its time to go.

However im pretty sure in some states they have an orange light after the red and before the green to alert people they can go soon.

That light always amused me because i reckon for sure it would encourage me and my boy racer attitude to surface.

Oh and i might also add that my above interpretation was for when i started driving which was about 30 something years ago. Nowadays when the light turns red, most interpret it to mean...........hurry up and get through tyhe lights and see how many can even go through the red before the cross traffic starts moving.

Uh huh - and this is why they have now brought out red light camera's here in Melb! (and possibly other states as well)

At most intersection that don't have cameras I consider the red light to be more like a suggestion rather than anything else.

If I am at a red and I can plainly see that there isn't another car for hundreds of metres then I just drive off straight, right, left or which ever way that i happen to be going.
