Interesting differences between countries.

At most intersection that don't have cameras I consider the red light to be more like a suggestion rather than anything else.

If I am at a red and I can plainly see that there isn't another car for hundreds of metres then I just drive off straight, right, left or which ever way that i happen to be going.

Damn. How can I change being such a friggin law abiding citizen, life would be so much less stressful.

DFRS........we have had red light cameras for many many years up here. But not at all interesections.

If you wear shorts (especially in an office environment) I think you should be made to wear walk socks pulled up to knee height.

But that would then negate the cooling factor from wearing shorts!

i wear shorts all the time to work, and i work in an office. i'm wearing shorts today. it's so frequent, the only time i got a comment on my attire recently was when i wore jeans on monday.

couple things i noticed while i was in australia...

1. you guys do not have hot dogs or chili for that matter. maybe a few lucky ones have had the luxury of a chili dog (or texas chuckwagon chili)
2. you guys do without most dipping sauces. i had seen the most basic of condiments while in australia. here in the states we have about 10 different kinds of major steak sauces (barbecue sauce) 3-4 different kinds of ketchup, an assortment of mayonaise and mustards a cornucopia of salad dressings
3.a "large" value meal in australia is about the size of a medium in the states
4.portions of food are "per person" in that when you order a large pizza it typically feeds one person a large pizza in america is typically no smaller than 35cm
5.snags for breakfast lunch and dinner (days in a row)
6.a small variety of soda's to drink from
7.Not much television variety (even foxtel)
8.public transportation is pretty good
9.Im not sure if any of you have the luxury of central aircon. (this is one unit outside the house providing every room in the home with ventillated ac controlled by a digital thermostat in the house) i didnt have much a/c the whole 6 weeks i was there.
10.hungry jack's is known as burger king in the states.
11.chips are known as french fries
12.tomato sauce is known as ketchup

i've been meaning to jot these subtle differences down for quite some time for a scrap book im making. ill add to it via this thread as i think of obscurities. they were fresh in my head while i was in sydney over a year ago a real shame it took me this long to write them down.

1. ??? Hot dogs are everywhere.

2. Go to a supermarket. You can buy a bazillion sauces there.

3. Yes we are a fitter nation.

4. In america you have oblong pizza...........lol. what a dum idea that was. you have to use cutlery.

5. Where you on struggle street?

6. because dr peppers is crap. The only reason we have zero and diet coke is to keep the greenies happy.

7. How many channels do you want?

8. what planet do you live on?

9. Try getting away from the van park for a while.

10 We used to have both but hungry jack was hungrier than what burger king was kingly and so he ate the king.

11. We have both chips and french fries. French fries are skinnier and typically served in Maccas whereas chips are soggier and served in fush and chup shops.

12. agreed.

This is the one that stood out to me, it's Australia, these new fangled inventions reached us at least 5 years ago ;) (and the need for a description just in case us Aussies couldn't work out what central air con is!)

Supermarkets in the US are fucking huge. They have way more sauces, cereal, pretty much everything.

You scoff but in my experience it's mostly Vic/Tassie/Canberra that have central, because it gets cold enough to warrant it as heating in the winter.

In QLD/NSW most people I know with air con have it in the one or two rooms (eg living area/bedroom) you spend the most time in during summer; it's not worth the investment venting the entire house when you're really only using it 3 months of the year.

Them's fucking fighting words cunt! Dr Pepper is the world's best soft drink, apart from maybe old school brown creaming soda.

And we have diet coke and coke zero to keep wealthy wives who have to keep fit in order not to be traded in for a newer model. Greenies, of the hippy variety anyway, would probably protest to the Phenylalanine because hippys get up in arms about anything that sounds remotely chemical unless they're attached to a word like emollient.

Of course phenylalanine is actually one of the natural twenty amino acids all life is made up of, one of the building blocks of proteins. Although there is a rare genetic disorder Phenylketonuria which leads to people unable to break it down in the body's normal manner meaning they accumulate toxic levels of it unless they monitor strictly their intake. Most of us, not a problem.
