Hello I am new to Bluelight posting and have been reading the forums for a long time as I've always found assistance from the knowledge of the users here.
Here's my story.... I was born with a rare disease, that has caused me pain and discomfort in my right leg my entire life (Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome). As a child I had multiple surgeries to remove malformations on my leg and they always grew back. In 2011 I started having constant chronic headaches. Which later after meeting with the Cleveland Clinic neurologists we found it was a malformation. In 2012 I started having non partial seizures caused by bleeding from the malformation and was diagnosed as epileptic. On February 17th 2015 I had to have brain surgery to remove the malformation causing my epilepsy. Prior to the surgery I was taking a prescription for 130 10mg Vicodin a month with other meds for the head pain I was still having along with chronic pain in my right leg. After surgery I was prescribed a number of medications, including 5mg Valium with the instructions 'take 1 tablet every six hours OR AS NEEDED.' 3 days after my initial surgery I needed a spinal tap due to swelling in my brain. Nothing was found, but still to this day I'm in chronic pain at the injection site that shoots throughout my back and into my neck. Up until about a month ago I have been living with this pain because the doctors I was seeing prior to brain surgery would no longer prescribe me pain meds bc my epilepsy was gone. They suggested I see a pain management doctor. Since then I have seen 2 Cleveland Clinic pain management doctors who said they would not prescribe me any pain meds because they cause head aches. Not taking into consideration the chronic back pain and leg pain I struggle to live with daily. After seeing them I took things into my own hands and made an appointment with an acupuncturist. Who prescribed me a Herbal Analgesic. I then ordered an acupuncture mat off Amazon and starting doing it myself at home. Since then I've been taking the meds she prescribed me AS NEEDED, along with alot of ibuprofen, Tylenol, aspirin, anything to help take the edge off. So I started seeing a pain management doctor last week that put me on Vicodin 5mg 3 times a day which did nothing, so I made another appointment that was today. During the appointment he talked about putting me on Percocet and Lydocaine Patches he then had me come in for a drug test in another room. The Valium that was prescribed to me by the surgeon that had the instructions 'OR AS NEEDED' was found in my system. Along with morphine and an anti depressant, which after some research I found both of those to be in a valium. Obviously I was taking it as needed considering the fact it was prescribed to me 8 months ago with no refills and I still had some left. Also found in my drug screening was a very low amount of THC, which I've come across some things online that say the Herbal Analgesic along with other otc meds like ibuprofen and naproxin, can create a false positive for THC. So the pain management doctor has discharged me as a patient because I didn't inform him I take either of those medications. At my first appointment his nurse asked me "what medications do you take DAILY?" Since I do not take the Valium or the Herbal Analgesic DAILY I did not inform the nurse, nor the doctor. Now I am out of a doctor, out of my meds and he told me he was reporting me so all future doctors would know I abuse medication. So long story here but what should I do?

Hi, Welcome to Bluelight! I'm sorry you are suffering so much. I was in a pain management program but never got drug tested. When I worked in a treatment center we would often have false positives for benzos, but I am not familiar with THC coming up as a false positive. This seems impossible.

What is the Herbal Analgesic called? Is it a tincture? You might find some answers in Cannabis Discussion.

We also have a The Pain Management Megathread (Chronic and Acute Pain Discussion) v6.

You might want to check out this as well ---- >The Opioid Withdrawal Megathread and FAQ. You could be experiencing withdrawal a bit which will increase pain. I can't be sure but in these links you may find some answers.

Did they refer you to help elsewhere when you were discharged? Best of luck, please don't hesitate to ask me any questions. :)

Your story broke my heart, I'm so sorry you're dealing with daily chronic pain. Have you tried a methadone clinic? I deal with chronic pain and was in one until I had trouble paying the 100$ a week. My moms still going and has been going for about 13 years. Anyway, check around in your area and find out if you have one. Pease & love.

Unfortunately, with the current pain management environment and shifting attitudes regarding opioids and long term chronic pain, doctors are on edge and tend to be very inflexible with their opiate contracts. Those first few pain management appts is the time when you need to be as transparent as you can regarding anything that could be revealed via drug test or the PMP. It is not the time to be cagey or spilt hairs on any and all medications or supplements (including OTCs) you take more than once a month. What is that herbal analgesic anyway? The minute you say that to a doctor without having said herbal analgesic in hand so the doctor can look at it, it screams MMJ. And if you are living in a state without MMJ decriminalization, you will be flat out told, no dice on the opiates but here's some gabapentin and see you in a month. Hell, even here in MI where you can get a MMJ card, my doc flat out told me until it's rescheduled on the federal level, the major hospital network he works for cannot recommend MMJ and will cut off anyone who has a positive drug test.

I digress. What I would do is this, obtain a signed letter say that you have been formally discharged from that practice and you have been released from any pain contract you had with your previous dr. That way there will be no talk of dr shopping. Obtain a copy of your medical record including surgical notes from your many surgeries. This way you can also see what previous pain dr said about you and his conclusions about your potential drug abuse, and you'll be able to strategize how you will address any questions the new docs might have.

I also think that the methadone route is a viable one as a last chance saloon kind of deal. Methadone is great for chronic pain. But once drs realize that you've been attending a methadone clinic regardless of the reason, you will have to deal with ignorant, short sighted healthcare providers indefinitely. Also some clinics will flat out not prescribe to CPPs as the rules for methadone drs are crazy restrictive in some areas of the country. You will probably also have a difficult time get adequate pain relief following any surgical procedures.

Anyway, good luck and I hope you can find a compassionate dr who is willing to help you. I'm also interested in what the heck herbal analgesic is if it's not pot.
