Insulin and mescaline interactions

Hey, its my first post on bluelight, so hi! I recently read a page on erowid (http://www.erowid.org/plants/cacti/cacti_guide/cacti_guide19.shtml) that said mescaline toxicity is increased by insulin. I have type one diabetes and have experimented with certain drugs in the past, i am always very careful and usually do much smaller amounts than other people. I also monitor my blood sugar levels closely when i am under the influence. I have taken cacti twice in my life, the first time was around 20 grams, and i had a mild trip, the second time i had around 30, and didnt trip at all but vomited like i have never done before, really was the most violent i have ever been sick. I was basically wondering why this happened? Chemically i mean, the first time i had had glargine and novorapid, the second time i had had levemir and novorapid. And also, is it just mescaline i should avoid taking?

Cheers

Sorry i should have mentioned, i had an empty stomach both times, the second time i ground it up and had lemon juice and ginger in the mix, first time i just made plain tea. Blood sugars were fine both times.

Cheers

cacti tend to induce vomiting in most people i think, or at least nausea. Some of it may be psychosomatic, as with most psychedelics, and there tends to be less vomiting with pure mescaline, but actual cactus material tends to be a pukefest quite often. I generally trust erowid, but I don't know where the insulin info came from, and its not cited, so i'm a bit skeptical.

hmm... i agree with what you said about erowid. I might see if i can contact them and ask for a citation maybe. cheers for the reply

i know this thread died, but i just thought id add that erowid haven't got back to me, but they did add a sentence saying that hyperinsulinism and mescaline could prove fatal, though it doesn't say why. So I guess it's probably good advice to say diabetics should probably shy away from mescaline just in case. I wonder if the risk is similar with other similar drugs? I'm only adding this in case someone searches mescaline and diabetes or insulin, figured the warning would show up.
