Why don’t you cover me with words?

Write ‘BEGIN’ on my forehead,
as a reminder to the mirror, to my friends
and my punishers –
I am ready.

I can imagine ‘A-G-O-N-Y’
across the knuckles of my left hand,
‘E-C-S-T-A’ across the knuckles of my right
(ecstasy is always truncated). The ‘S’
delayed on to my left buttock,
and the ‘Y’ given to my right,
so that at a time of my choosing, you,
while clasping my right hand behind me,
will see me abandoned
and complete.

Write ‘SOUL’ somewhere on my body
And ‘BODY’ somewhere on my soul,
so that all is labelled clearly…

‘COMPASS’ along my cock,
making preparations for compassion,
and to remind me that
lust is something to be navigated
(our body of water).

What should be written on my eyes?
Answers? Sphinxes? Keys?
Will I ever be able to read them?

What should it say inside my ear –
what sin,
that you could not say there?

i really really like it but at the same time I'm feeling a little scared. Was this written in bad circumstances? or am I just crazy...

It was written a few months ago, and not in bad circumstances from what I can remember. Well, it was written in the midst of samsara, but then I guess all my poems are... ;)

It's funny, I don't really go out of my way to seek out poetry outside of this site. I think I prefer to read the words of people that I know something of, rather than complete strangers. Knowing a little of the personality behind the work gives it an added dimension.

Hmmm... not really sure where I was going with that train of thought, but this piece was great.

This really seemed to fit with the music I was listening to as I read it (Massive Attack - Heat Miser.)

Anyway, I guess what I wanted to say was, thanks for sharing your work with us. It truly is a pleasure to read :)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think part of the reason why poets like Kerouac, Ginsberg, Plath and O'Hara are so popular (including with people who aren't necessarily big readers of poetry) is because they had such strong personalities. People know about them, about their lives... mythologies have been built around them, in the same way that mythologies have been built around the lives of Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain. It can be difficult to approach poetry without any knowledge of the poet, because a lot of the time, so much depends on their values, their upbringing... the time and place they lived in, the political climate, the way poetry and art were conceived in their community, etc.

There are many ways in which poetry can be powerful, but it can certainly be powerful when it operates on a personal level. Traditionally we might say that it's at its most powerful when it operates on a deeply personal, yet "deeply universal" level... although that's a debate for another thread perhaps! ;)

I <3 Massive Attack! =D

Yes, this was truly magnificant.
I rarely ever log into this damned site anymore.
I'm glad I did today.
I'm glad I got to read this.
It was great!
