Actually I think most docs would be happy to help you out with a problem, but after that they'd want to try and get you REAL help by getting you off drugs. And if it was a doc that was prescribing you the meds you were abusing, kiss them goodbye!
ABOUT MISSING SHOTS/SWELLING: First of all, if you miss a shot you will have clear signs long before you finish injecting. With me, if I've unwittingly missed a vein, the skin where I'm shooting starts to swell up immediately, usually the size of a dime or nickel (which later turns much much bigger). Anyway the point is, if you inject slowly and in a well lit room and pay attention, you'll know you've missed before you get halfway through injecting, so just pull out at the first sign of trouble! You'll minimize the damage and, of course, save most of your shot for the other arm
If you missed and begin to swell, they say to apply a warm compress, which does work, but I recently found that running your arm under hot water (hot as you can take without burning yourself) is much more effective. The problem with the compress is it cools down so fast, you have to keep reheating, so the amount of time the affected area actually keeps warm is minimal.
I leave my arm under the tap for 3-5 mins, take a break for a minute or two, then go back under the tap. I do this 3 or 4 times and within a few hours the swelling dramatically goes down. The few times this has happened to me, if I follow these instructions, by the next morning I'm nearly back to normal.
And I also hit on a GREAT way to cut the amount of time it takes for track marks to heal IN HALF. I just posted it to this thread, so take a look:

Basically, use some vitamin E under a warm compress after every shot - injection spots will heal much faster.
One way I think I can tell if I'm in a vein is it seems to hurt more when I actually press the needle in. Is it my imagination? Do veins have nerves? Because I can swear that when I inject and i properly register, the poke hurts a little more than when I've missed.
