Injection; IV Complications and Information MEGATHREAD and FAQ II - show me the blood

Which angle to register?

I remember some post about going in vertically to register into a vein. I can see the logic of that if the vein is not protruding, ie if you first have to go "drilling for blood".

But what about if the vein if visible and/or protruding? Is it a good idea to first go in *very slowly* at an angle of 90° to register, then incline and push? I noticed even big, "easy" veins tend to slip out of the way if you attack them at a glancing angle, while they will stay in place if attacked vertically.

Rather than try to explain via words, click on this link which shows pictures, and has plenty of information on IVing.

you missed a little bit of your shot. that is all, nothing to be too alarmed over unless and abcess forms...

happens all the time to me, too fucked up and got more bags and go to boot and cant find spot cause mines are all fucked somedays will go soon

if the mass is very hard it is likely cartilaginous scar tissue that formed around the area the spike traumatized... feel for heat or fever in the area to ensue it isn't an abcess. also red streaking going up that arm towards your torso would be indicative of an infection

if you missed you would have been able to tell right away because it burns right when you're shooting. So if that wasnt it, maybe your vein collapsed? I heard that hurts like a bitch, though it has never happened to me (thank god).

too much blood?

I would consider myself a moderate user, if I do experience withdrawal after a binge, it is typically not for very long and not very strong. (I have trouble getting to sleep, usually toss and turn all night, and of course there's the diarrhea, but I don't get as sick as I have seen some others) Anyway, I seem to have fairly deep veins, I don't know if this is because I am slightly over-weight or if the fact that i am female has anything to do with it (almost all of the female users I know have trouble finding their veins) I can easily find the vein on my left arm, but not in my right arm. A few years back I had to have surgery and a lot of blood work done (the surgery had nothing to do with drug-use, I don't even think I used drugs in those days) and even the nurses couldn't find the vein in my right arm. As a result, I have only been able to hit the main vein in my left arm. I always try to use a different entry point, but obviously there are times where I end up using the same spot, which i think has caused some scar tissue. Anyway, after injecting and pulling out the needle (and this usually is only during a binge) I have a lot more blood coming out than i have before. It doesn't spurt out, it "oozes" but there is a considerable amount more than there has been in the past. Is that because of the repeated use of only one vein?

Yeah.

If it happened within a day or so after a shot it could be a miss. Keep an eye on it for any changes.

If it didn't happen right after a miss, it's probably scarring.

I'd get it checked out if I were you.

Collapsing a vein would hurt if you injected ethanol which wasn't properly diluted to a very low concentration (< 10%), or another corrosive agent. However collapsing your veins from IVing way too much too frequently won't hurt if you ignore literally sticking the needle in one too many times. Unless the pain is coming from a separate but possibly related injection complication, my understanding is that once you have collapsed the vein, it just disappears, you won't feel pain from it and it alone.

Then again I don't believe I have collapsed any of my veins I still use to this day, which is most of them. I have stopped using some due to an inconvenient spot (like hands).

how does high % ethanol collapse veins?
It damages the cells that make up the walls of your blood vessels. I think primarily by causing the cell membrane to somewhat dissolve thereby weakening it. Remember that alcohol is a disinfectant and hurts when applied to open wounds. Just because you don't feel the acute pain of injecting it due to a lack of nerves doesn't mean it isn't do damage.

a couple times after injecting about 45 minutes later id be shivering uncontrollably and really cold, it lasted about an hour and a half then would calm down. my friend said its probly from injecting a tiny bit of cotton but im not sure if thats true. if anyone could answer id greatly apreciate it.

.. Just thought id share a picture of a localised skin infection i got from using the same IV site over and over again without letting it heal... 8)
At the time i was using pharmacutical grade Morphine from single use ampouls.. I always used a fresh needle, sterile water and alcohol wipes so i doubt it was caused from any real unclean practice..
The infection was easily treated with Cefalexin and went away after about 5 days.. It didnt cause me any pain, just itchy at times... Anyhow, safe shooting everyone, take care... Let your sites heal!, and may life be good to you.. :)

^ i got something like that when i was heavy in using needles and it resulted into scar tissue around the vein in that area and is a bitch to get at now.. but i'm clean now so hopefully that won't be happening lol.
But that sucks that happened to you. Good to hear it cleared up fast. Mine did also but i only used neosporin, vitamin e oil, tea tree oil and vitamin A & D ointment and applied moist heat a few times a day (microwavable heating things with beads in it). <- home remedy just to note for people needing advice on how to heal tracks quicker.

anyone???????

^Sounds like your body spiked a rapid fever to fight off foreign bodies you injected. You should switch to micron filtering instead of cotton. Check out the megathread on it in the OD directory as linked in my signature.
