Hey JJ, if you did a lot of reading up here you may have noticed a lack of "swim" references.

That's because there is NO SWIMMING ALLOWED on Bluelight.

As you were...

no I dont know the signs of an artery injection, I just guessed. I just started to inject and it burnt like a mofo and I pulled it out pretty quick. So is a histamine reaction pretty serious or what? that happened a couple days ago and the pic was from just now

Signs of an artery injection include bright red blood with some blow back on needle insertion and burning, tingling, numbness, pain and swelling in extremities below the shot. If it happened a few days ago and your hand isn't suffering from compartment syndrome and gangrene from poor circulation you probably didn't hit an artery or at least it has not been detrimental.

I'd say you just missed a shot and injected subdermally and had a bit of an allergic reaction (histamine release) to it resulting in a rash. Don't itch the area and monitor it for infection but you should be okay so long as it wasn't an artery shot as indicated above.

If in doubt no one but you can make the decision to go to the hospital and even someone as super awesome as me can't tell you for sure you'll be alright over the internet. I would hate for my advice to cause someone to hesitate getting medical treatment if they really needed it.

^^^ Doesn't look at all like you hit an artery. Your title is very misleading, hitting an artery is cause for immediate summoning of an ambulance and professional medical attention. You would KNOW if you hit an artery, bright red blood forcing the needle back and sometimes out of your arm all together. It looks to me like you blew your shot and missed, looks like a classic cause of histamine release by your body. Has the area stayed the same since a few days ago? Was the site rash/redness worse? Is it getting better at all? Have you tried an anti-histamine? Did you register? If it burnt, chances are you went through the vein, slipped out or clumsily were never in to begin with. There is an IV megathread with a plethora of great information. Careful with your titles, this one falls right into the bin with "EMERGENCY, PLEASE HELP, NEED HELP NOW!" threads. Hitting an ARTERY IS CAUSE FOR IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION, NO IFS ANDS OR BUTS!

Be safe man!

Hitting an artery is dangerous and needs to be monitured but you might wait a minute before jetting off to the emerengcy room. When you hit an artery its typical for your limb that you injected in, to become swollen and sore because when you inject in to artery the solution goes to the ends of the capilaries in the ends of your fingers and hand and then become lodged there and cause inflamation. You can kind of tell how bad it is by how much it hurts, if its painful or unbarable then yes go to the hospital. When Iv hit an artery Iv used an heavy duty back messager that vibrates to hold in my hand and that seems to help greatly.

Doesn't look like an artery hit, but if it's still there in a couple more days go to the doctor for sure, it's not worth losing a limb.

i've already chimed in on this thread thinking it is a histamine reaction but i just wanted to say ^ every time i see your avatar Case it 1)puts me in a good mood and 2) reminds me of wal*mart lol

^^ Would a histamine reaction leave a rash for a few days though?

Either way try taking some bandryl or another antihistamine maybe that will help, then again maybe it wont. We really can't know for sure what it is. :\

If it get's worse or doesn't get better soon, just go to the doctor. Anything else we say is purely speculation.

That is a good point I have never had a histamine reaction leave a rash for multiple days. I would agree if it doesn't get better get to a doctor asap.

If this helps at all.......
the burning you described is that of a half missed shot and the reaction in the picture looks that of a cellulitis infection caused by the miss, cellulitis can be caused by anything"sharp"piercing the skin so if you had to get medical for it you dont exactly have to say what caused it if you get my drift? just curious how long ago did this happen sorry i been away for a while so soz if i missed sumthin

it happened like about 5 days ago now. Its still there and it looks about the same. I went to the dr today to get my picc line out of my other arm and when she took my pulse on that arm, she noticed it and asked if I scratched myself or something haha. It registered some, it may have slipped out but I'm usually pretty careful about this, but like I said, I only injected maybe 5 units and it like stung really bad and I pulled it out. One time I had an IV on that arm in the hospital and they gave me a dilaudid IV down lower on my wrist and it was like the vein was blown out up there or something, it was like all the medicine came out my vein and bubbled up right there. weird... Probly not connected but I thought it might be worth mentioning. but it doesnt hurt or anything so I'm not too worried about it. I'll try some benedryl.
And for the person complaining about the title, I clearly don't know what it looks like when u hit an artery, but from what I read about it, I was pretty concerned. I'm not trying to lose a limb over this dumb shit, and my veins suck anyways and are so hard to hit even for an IV team, I really need to try to stick to just snorting opanas and roxis instead of shooting everything I can. I can easily go for a couple days without poking myself, but then sometimes I get a bad craving. I had a picc line that I was using for about half of my shots as I was too worried by the warnings I got on here to use it more, but I think I did it as safely as I could, I used a saline solution, and boiled the dope to kill as much bacteria as I could. I even whipped down my spoons with alcohol swabs every time.

Why the hell would you name your thread "hit an artery" if you have no idea what hitting an artery is like? You guessed?

This is what happens when dumb asses pick up the needle.

Better put an ambulance on speed dial...

blah, blah, blah you didint hit an atrery if you did youd know it cause it would fuckn hurt like right after you shot up, so the only advice i can give you is lay off the rock and wait til the swelling goes away

It looks like you shot your dope, you had a histamine reaction, then started scratching a lot?

If you hit your artery, you wouldn't have perceived getting high at all, and your hand would be inflated, and your fingers would possibly start becoming discolored. It would be very painful too.

Important safety tip for new needleheads

Ok, this might be an obvious tip to the regulars, but I thought I'd offer it as a "heads up" to newcomers just in case it happens to them...

Sometimes you slide the needle in, pull back, see blood and now you're home free! Just gently push down on the plunger and await bliss...

But halfway down the plunger suddenly feels like it's gotten stuck! You try to push down but for some reason the resistance has doubled...

STOP RIGHT THERE! This is a sign that you've either slipped out of the vein or accidentally pushed right through it during the shot. No matter how desperate you are for your fix, you need to pull out and start over. If you push down hard and try to complete the shot all you're going to do it swell up, bruise and, worst of all, loose whatever is left of your shot!

Don't worry, it happens to the best of us. We can't see inside our veins and sometimes we've registered right on the edge of the vein... Try as we might, its hard to keep that needle 100% steady (especially if you're withdrawing) so the slightest movement can "unregister" you in a heartbeat.

This is why some people pause in the middle of their shot - they pull back the syringe a bit and look for a little blood, just to double check that they are still inside the vein.

Personally, I don't bother re-registering, since if you suddenly poke out of the vein its pretty obvious (the needle gets stuck, you see the skin puff up in reaction to the drugs and sometimes it might even hurt).

In any case, always pay careful attention as you shoot - registering is a large part of the battle, but making sure you STAY registered is important as well.

Oh and stay away from mad dogs with rabies, they can ruin your shot too.
