Dude you can use your insurance it's fine. The hospital will bill your insurance for an ER visit and the procedure done (access lanced). If you don't admit to drug use there is zero chance your insurance company will lable you a drug addict. I currently work for an insurance company and I used to be a paramedic and I have been working the system for years. Save your cash and let your insurance cover it. You will be fine, just do not admit anything.

i agree with this

Most ER docs are smarter than you may give them credit for. Even if you don't up and tell them that the abcess is from a missed shot, they'll probably put two and two together and figure it out. These are not dumb people. If the doc is a true asshole, he/she will start questioning how you got it, why you are using drugs, make a note of it in your chart, etc. etc. Most doctors will just treat the abcess and have you on your way.

Using a fake name and address is not smart. If they dispense drugs or send you home with a script and you've used an alias you can be charged with a felony. There is no need to lie.

As to medical records, keep in mind that one of the "ideas" promoted with gov't-run "health care" is electronic records. Should that happen, you will be depending on the government for the security of those records!

Could it pass as a spider bite?

I am a nurse and I've heard that one before.

Hope it heals quickly!

^thank you for pointing that out knowbodz. all this talk of giving a fake name and shit, no fucking go - we're not here to help people scam doctors. what if it were to catch up to you someday, somehow? like if you had to have ongoing treatment, seeing other doctors, scripts, etc.

all the other advice in here is great:)

Maybe so, but being labeled an addict is a hell of a lot better than being labeled a corpse.

exactly what i was thinking

legitamate IV

hey fellow bluelighters.. im a newbie at IV drug use and i was wondering if there is any legitamate IV use on the veins in the arms? whether it be IV allergy meds, vitamins(probably not), or anything... i know diebetes has insulin shots hence the reason i am able to purchase needles in the first place but if i understand that correctly its administered in the stomach. the reason i was asking this is because i have a physical coming up soon and im pretty sure my track marks wont be faded beyond recognition by then...8)

posts like these belong in the IV thread so i will merge it for you.

are you able to cover up your track marks with clothing? maybe even some makeup would be suitable if its just for a medical. whats it for anyway? a job?

to help them heal i would start using some vitamin e creams and aloe vera - thats what i use when i have exhausted my arm and am starting to show a little scaring (like right now). there are other ointments out there that help with this kind of thing as well.

search through this thread and other threads and youll find plenty of recommendations

I've always been a fan of neosporin (triple antibiotic ointment, same shit) and vitamin A and D (and E) ointment. Then again, I used filters proper technique (rotation, rotation, rotation) so track marks were never really a problem.

Shooting Up & You

but I really want to try IV before I give it up. Maybe I'm just being stupid.

I wouldn't say you're being stupid, but you should definitely read up a lot about IVing before trying it again, and possibly find someone who can help you out.

Also, if you're still addicted to H, it's best not to shoot it. It's better to not be addicted to opiates when you try them IV, so if H was a big problem for you, just move on without having tried it IV.

That's just my opinion.

What's a doctor going to do because you shoot up?

There's very few reasons why one would be shooting up in the arms medicinally speaking. Some people get ampules of medications (pain meds, anxiety meds, etc) but this isn't common practice.

+1 to the max!

Triple antibiotic ointment is some really nice stuff. It's great for track marks, burns, scars, scratches, etc. Fun for the whole family, etc. ;)

Big bump at heroin injection site :(

Sooooo I was taking a shot (of heroin, to clarify for everyone), and I did all proper procedure.... filter, cook, wipe, etc. etc. Anyways, I shoot in my wrist because it's easier to hide/my arms are not doing so well. I used a vein that was running kind of horizontally, but still ran towards my heart. Stuck it in, registered, took off the tourniquet. I started to inject; a slight burn, so I adjusted a tiny bit and re-registered. It flagged so I did my shot.

Right after I finished and pulled out, I wiped with a tissue and put pressure on it... and it HURT. Badly. I lifted the tissue and underneath was a huge bump... slightly resembling a histamine reaction but huge. And painful. (not so much anymore, its been about 10 minutes or so. And it got a bit bigger.)

My question is... anyone know what this is? I don't think I missed... there was no burning, and I registered a second time halfway through injecting just to make sure I was still in. I hit this vein a couple times earlier today and there was not a reaction like this. It's slightly warm now. Not painful, but really red, and itchy.

So if any of you have an idea what this is... let me know please!

Thanks for your timeeee. Here are a couple pics. Its hard to see through my tattoo. The little dot on the inside of the bass clef is where I stuck the needle in.

Yeah I'm high. I guess I should have rephrased, I know I didn't miss because it wasn't burning. Its been a couple hours now, and the bump is still there. I was thinking about it, and does anyone think it's possible that the dope might have leaked out from a hole in the vein from previous injections? I don't know if that can happen or not.
My wrist is a bit swollen and sore, still a bit red. Still has a lump.
Thanks guys.

It wouldn't have come out from a vein, since you released the tourniquet prior to shooting.
Have you used this dope before or since? It's possible there's something in it that gave you an allergic reaction.

Honestly, I don think its anything to worry about. Just apply some pressure and very hot heat (water works better, as hot as you can take) . I like to put in under the sink or in the shower , using the water to apply pressure... Massage it as well when its under the hot water, it should get a lot better.

I've dealt with much worse. The only thing to worry about would be if the area got real big and red (like x10) or your whole arm got swollen up really big (artery hit...) . I think you'll be fine, but I don't think it's a histamine reaction. Those get a lot bigger and look more... organic.

Tell me how it goes it you put it under hot water.

Its obvious you missed or blew a vein. Put warm compresses on it and watch it closely. It should go down in a day or two and be fine (hopefully you used good technique mixing your shot). If it starts to get infected (spreading redness, heat, irritation) you're going to have to get medical treatment. Keep an eye on your temperature.

I always found the wrist to be a poor place to inject. The veins are small and its easy to slide out in the midst of an injection. Most often, these lumps will scare the hell out of you, but resolve themselves. Hopefully, you will learn a good lesson and be OK. If in doubt, get it checked!

When poking the wrist it always tends to hurt/give a reaction after the shot even if you didn't miss... the area is just very sensitive I guess.

Im with Budz on this one. Ive had that happen SOO many times, and I put my heating pad on it, and that will help SO much, and I don't use cotton anymore, I use a filter from a REGULAR cigarette(dont use menthol, EVER) and that seemed to help as well. Keep it as clean as possible, and resusing rigs always got me in trouble too. It hurts like a motherfucker when they're not new, and I tend to miss alot more that way.
