injecting with a dropper

i just finished reading junky. it's a good book and everything, i just have a question about something i read.

at one point, burrough's says you can use a safety pin and a dropper, from a dropper bottle, to inject heroin if you don't have a syringe. apparetly you just poke your vein with the safety pin and put the dropper full of solution on, not in, the hole. it doesn't sound quite right to me, and i'm sure it can't be safe, but has anyone done this or known anyone who has. i just don't think it would work.
 
of course its not safe... but when youre a JUNKIE you normally dont give two fucks. :) he wrote about this same procedure in naked lunch, and i was unsure about it too when i read it--although, im sure its prolly possible. im about to start this one next...when ive got a little more time and a little less reading for school to do.
 
I don't see this working too well, since blood flows out of an open wound so that bad things don't get into the wound.
 
here you can check out examples of eyedropper needles on video, also they are pretty interesting and funny, they are anti-drug propaganda videos feom the 50's to the 70's, don't remember which one depicts the eyedropper method, I think it's the 1951 police tutorial, I'm pretty sure that in the shooting alley there they are shooting with an eyedropper, and the intro to other of those (or the same one, don't remember) is a looped shot of someone mainlining with an eyedropper.

yeah! i was amazed by that when i read Junky. those were some resourceful and determined junkies back then.

it doesn't quite seem logical to me either, but i trust Burroughs, if he says it worked, im sure it did.

oh, and if nothing else, he sure makes me fuckin glad we can get nice rigs now, and don't have to use the dropper method.

mass props to those old school junkies...
