Misc Injecting heroin mixed with Unisom sleepgel capsules

I have a friend that does this. The capsules are blue and oval shaped, she puts the needle in the capsule and heats it up with lighter while sucking all the liquid out.

It gets her wasted good and proper

Should i warn my friend against doing this? She has had a habit for 20 years so if shooting Unisom was dangerous and could kill you she would be dead now already

whenever i do opiates i take the complimentary drug first so it’s in my system and active when the opiate hits. this allows the opiate to hit hard even though i don’t have them mixed together in a syringe. that increases the risk of od versus taking the opiate first to make sure the dose is not too strong, but it’s not a terrible compromise. i don’t iv at all. the positive effects of iv opiates versus other routes is greatly exaggerated.

She isn't talking about Temazepam.. they're unisom sleepgels, containing diphenhydramine. Australia hasn't had Temazepam gels for a long time.

Yes you suck the gel out of capsule and mix it with the heroin and water .. obviously not very safe! But many people do it. Anecdotally, I have heard of people losing limbs etc, but not in person.

Diphenhydramine potentiates heroin. I would say that it increases the power of the hit by about 25%

This is something that should never be done by anyone. If you have the chemical expertise to separate Doxylamine (Unisom) from the gel and make it sterile, sure.

Otherwise, folks trying to inject "gel" see: Temazepam is known to be extremely dangerous.

For what even? Sure we've all been willing to deal with the devil to get well from Opioid withdrawal. Are you seriously gonna sacrifice literal life and limb for an antihistamine?

I agree that an antihistamine can be a nice cherry on top of a nice buzz. I do not know why exactly but I have theories that I've discussed here in the forums. The injection of antihistamines among Opioid addicts stretches back decades. Burroughs describes it as common in Junky, which is ~1945ish.

Antihistamines are not controlled. If it is worth potentially losing a limb, you can order a couple grams of sterile Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) or Doxylamine. I've never found one to be significantly better than the other.

I have been looking for vials of liquid promethazine or liquid diphenhydramine, they do exist in hospital type places.. but obviously not very easy to find...

I did have access to Midazolam vials... Luckily I never mixed it with opiates because I would have dropped

Some have diphenhydramine. Some have doxylamine. Does seem like the diphenhydramine ones has become more common which is a shame because if you ask me doxylamine is the better drug

And NEVER inject that shit god damn good way to kill yourself. Sure take some while you do your heroin. But dont inject the capsules. There's like thickener and who knows where else in there. no no no. Tell your friend to never do that again.

Depends on the country I think, in Canada Unisom is Diphenhydramine, and in the US (only been to a few states and only bought it in NYC once so I dont really know if it is every state) it is Doxylamine. Might be another factor that decides if the Unisom has Diphenhydramine or Doxylamine but idk what that would be

Opiates in and of themselves, when properly dosed aren't especially harmful. However mixing them with just about any other drug us is risky. Most of the deaths attributed to fentanyl are actually caused by drug cocktails. Please don't mix opiates with other drugs such as alcohol - sedatives. The issue is unregulated street drugs are impossible to dose. Your friend could get product that is contaminated and or too pure tomorrow, and because she mixes it with a sedative possibly stop breathing. Trust Púca; Púca knows.
