Hi. First off, I'm new here in terms of posting, so if I need to ask differently, please let me know. I have been reading the forums for a while and haven't found a thread where this question is answered, but maybe it is...
Anyway, a friend of mine is prescribed demerol for pain. Recently, he has begun injecting it into his muscles so that he can get faster pain relief. My concern is with the level of pain he is experiencing in the aftermath.
He is just using hot tap water in the syringe to mix crushed demerol and then doing an IM injection. Is this improper technique? He is trying to avoid infections, but I think his technique may be wrong. He does use needles more than once, but he cleans them with alcohol between uses and uses alcohol to clean his skin before injection.
Any help would be appreciated as again, he doesn't want to get an infection or cause serious harm to his body.
