I know its not safe to IV pills cuz of the pill binders & stuff but what about with IM

I dont know anything about it. I suppose ya just use the same kind of needle bt ya find a muscle to put it in right. cuz if ya were to put it in the wrong spot it would be the same as missing an IV shot right?

thats where i cant see the difference between IM & a missed IV shot. i have muscles in my arms. my biceps. but if i were to shoot in there & not in a vein it would be the same as a missed IV shot, right? which is really bad for ya.

where do most ppl do IM shots?

If your worry is specifically binders, then IM is HELLA worse. You will guarantee yourself an abscess.

And no you are not supposed to use the same needle. Unless you are mad skinny a 1/2" needle is not going to reach deep enough into the muscle. The ideal needle size for IM is 1 & 1/2"

A missed shot is absolutely not an itramuscular injection. It is not going directly into the muscle like it needs to be absorbed quickly into the blood stream. Ever miss a shot.. notice how you get a big 'ol lump there that becomes painful? Well if you IM properly (and your solution is properly filtered) there will be very minimal pain and absolutely no lump, just a little spec. When you IM you don't just jam the needle randomly into your body as deep as it can go. The best spot is the outside of your arm by your shoulder, kind of right in the center of the triangle formed from the tip of your collar bone where it pops out to 2-3 inches down depending on body size. Some people use deltoid but not sure if its recommended.

I think you need to educate your self before you continue IVing for real. And maybe reconsider Iving all together. Unless you have vials designed for IM use, like vials of diazepam, the solution is really not designed for IM use and shoudl be IV'd. People IM as a last resort when they cant hit any more veins etc.. but if you ever saw someones arm who regularly IM's and isn't clean about it (micron filtering) its discusting. Filled with craters and shit from infections/abscesses they dug out.

Shooting pills without micron filtering is bad no matter what. It's ESPECIALLY bad to IM and you are guaranteeing your self an abscess. Those particles will become lodged under the skin and cause infection i.e. abscess over time. At least if you filter them good and IV you are just accumulating stuff in your body over time and killing your self slowly lol. Just kidding.. really though if your gonna shoot pills you must micron filter.. they are not thousands of bucks to buy....

If you properly micron filter your shot, and were to miss, you are reducing your risk of abscess twenty fold.

^THIS!

IM is a lot riskier than IV in general as you have a foreign substance sat in the muscle rather than being swept away by the blood, but IMing pills is especially bad. The filler/binder/general crap you have sat in your muscle tissue is a perfect breeding ground for bugs. Even after it has been micron filtered I still would not consider a dissolved pill IM-safe in the slightest. The only thing that should ever be IM'd is something in a sealed vial designed for IM use.

However, IM is still safer (as in less chance of abscess) than a missed shot, which is effectively subcutaneous - as the muscle has a richer blood supply than the subcutaneous tissue. That is why it is so important to make sure you are in the vein before you inject.

Your thigh or outside of your arm are the best/easiest places to IM if you are going to do it. In hospital they often go for your buttocks but you have to know the right spot as there is a major nerve you could hit if you don't know what you are doing (plus it wouldn't be easy IMing into your own buttocks!) As ms4104 said, you will often need a longer needle or you'll end up giving yourself a subcut shot which is far more risky in terms of abscesses.

Finally always use a micron filter, please :)
