Long time "sufferer" of depression/anxiety here, been on many meds for these conditions. I'm usually pretty numb overall, but lately I've been crying at the drop of a hat with daily fits of crying like a child.
The meds I take (Klonopin and Neurontin) are intended to combat my anxiety and produce relaxation. I assume that would also allow for greater emotional disinhibition.
This made me curious as a chemistry novice. What drugs would work to induce emotional inhibition? I'm wondering what kinds of compounds would produce an antidote to my current sobbing situation.
Caveats: 1) I won't be running to the streets to buy a new drug, I am simply curious about the chemistry of the situation and 2) I realize that the crying is likely due to depression and I'm currently under the care of a lovely Hopkins psychiatrist, so I'm sure myself and my tears will improve in due time
