An Indianapolis man targeted by police in a drug investigation died Thursday night after a struggle as police attempted to arrest him. The as yet unidentified man becomes the 24th person to die in US domestic drug law enforcement operations so far this year.
According to the Indianapolis Star, citing police sources, the incident on the city's Eastside occurred when the man attempted to flee officers seeking to arrest him. Police said the man fell while fleeing, then resisted as officers attempted to arrest him. One officer then shot him with a Taser "to subdue him."

The man then grew unresponsive, and was soon pronounced dead.

Police said they think the man may have swallowed drugs during the chase. The death is being investigated by Indianapolis police internal affairs and homicide detectives.

Police later called members of the Ten Point Coalition, an anti-violence outreach group, to the crime scene. The coalition is typically called to chaotic crime scenes to calm down family members and friends of the victim, the Star reported.

^ did you not read the part where he swallowed drugs, sounds like an easy way to jumpstart your heartrate alone not to mention running from the police and getting tased

i know this forum is quick to ignorantly say fuck the police blah blah blah but every one of us knows the risk of doing illegal things
its not like the taser has a lethal setting on it the cop made sure to adjust to while chasing down someone...
you act like a moron, well you might die doing it. how the cop is to blame in this scenario for doing his job and enforcing rules he doesnt make is beyond me

Not to sound rude but youve obviouslty neverh ad you person/ rights abused by the cops. They love to use tasers as soon as you look at them wrong and beating on you 20 at a time. Because,we drug users, are the bad guys and desrve punishment right?

Its nto fucking ignorance man, its reality. One out of 100 cops probably isnt a complete misinformed narcisstic and bulliying dickhead. Btw, if yu didnt know, swallowing drugs wont get you high instantly, unless youve swallowed a half O of ice or something. And they dont even know what he took, migtve been opiates, benzos, ketamine, who knows. Point is its not like POP i swallowed a pill and POP im high 2 mins later. THe fact that he ''maybe'' swalowed something doesnt have any influence on his death.
Also cops are weak little shits, because when you are 10 guy versus one , unless hes tony jaa or something you can find pretty fast and easily a way to ''subdue him''. THe taser is torture to please their sadistic minds..

The east side can be rough. Most murders occur there, in this city, I think. I once wanted to buy weed there, on the east side, and ended up with crack rocks in my hand (Well, I didn't want to be there, but I was new in town and knew nobody, and you could pretty much ask every other person and within two minutes find something... This guy was the first.). The guy told me he couldn't go back with it or he might get shot, so I just gave it to him and cut my loss.

I don't know, I think people on this forum are too quick to blame the police. If you are resisting arrest, and they have a job to arrest you or question you if you are suspected of crime, they are going to try to do their job. The only thing that can happen is a change in drug laws. Change then will happen, but will be slow.

The guy is running away... The way they quoted "subdue him" seeming to point to the fact that he was already down and to the writer, didn't need subduing, is just pointing fingers, trying to make it look worse than it is, or out of reason- the actions of the police. Just because he is down doesn't mean jack shit. The officer had a clear shot, and the guy would have gotten up to run away, or resisted more, had he not tased him. What would you do, really? "Please stop!" over and over again? In a known to be more violent than usual area, where a person could, more than likely have a weapon on them or be unstable... Go up and tackle them? They keep on running away... You aren't just going to let them get away if it's your job, and yea, you might get a sense of satisfaction from your job if you do it right and get the suspect/perp. I would. The only thing that can happen is a change in drug policy. Don't blame the dogs. They only did what they had to, given their instructions, training, the situation, the neighborhood known to be violent, the place with the most crack-addicts, Etc (this is generalized, totally, but it's always the "east side", generally, that I hear about the violent crime and Etc). Cops are afraid, too.

The only thing that can happen is a change in drug laws, so the cops (and people) aren't forced into these situations, and so these people can't fall into these lives where there's any profit in selling crappy impure drugs, and that breed more crime and corruption, desperation, poverty.

But, I guess, a better method of subduing could be created. Like a net-launcher. But the cops are given these things, not net-launchers, and they are overwhelmingly non-lethal (per times used). ...And even with a net launcher unless it somehow tightens up on the person, restricting their hands, they are still a danger to the police officer, and likely hard to get cuffed. I completely understand the use of tasers, from the perspective of a pursuer, trying to do his job.

I also can get why a guy selling drugs would want to get away, too. It's sad that this happened, but again, it's really none of these people's fault, it's the drug laws themselves. Don't get pissed at the dogs, in this situation. They were perfectly within logical procedure, and tasers are still probably the most non-lethal/safe way of dealing with potentially violent/unstable people. I am probably repeating myself, at this point.
