increasing klonopin dosage

allright, guys... this is kind of a double question. I recently went to the er for panic attacks and severe anxiety (damn IV valium is niiiiiiiiice!) and I was diagnosed with either bipolar disorder or add. the docs prescribed me a months supply of 1mg klonopins taken twice a day and 200mg of carbatrol twice a day until I can get in to see my doc. so... I know what klonopin is, but what in the hell is carbatrol? next... how can I convince my doc to up my dose of both. I really need the meds, so I don't plan on using recreationally, but if I can get 2mg klonopins twice a day and 400mg carbatrol twice a day then I can eat half, and be really, really, nice to my good friends... you know what I mean?

Carbatrol is an anti-convulsant. I doubt it has any recreational value. As for increasing the dosages of klonopin, your doctor will need to raise it with time anyway as you will develop a tolerence. You'll want to give it some time, then tell your doctor that Klonopin is effective, but isn't effective for as long as it used to be, and it doesn't calm you as well as it did. There is nothing stopping your doctor from just simply switching your medication to something different. Make sure you don't come off as someone that is going to be using them for recreation. Even then, your doctor may try to prevent you from getting dependent on them and switch you to a SSRI.
 
Carbatrol is carbamazepine, an anticonvulsant, and I would say it has little to no recreational value.
As for increasing your klonopin (clonazepam) I would just be honest with your doctor and tell him it is not enough for your aniexty.

2mg Klonopin bid doesn't happen overnight, hell, usually you start on .5mg, so when you see your general doc just tell him that the Klonopin helps you function daily - bring the bottle to show him, and oh yeah, if you see you doctor 4 days after you got yer 30 day supply, it's best there be NO MORE then maybe 4-7 days supply missing!
You will be started on an SSRI too - something like Paxil or Zoloft, and your doctor might try to knock that klonopin dose down - if he dose, BE WILLING TO TRY but don't argue until you give it the standard 2 weeks to declare that you firmly need those 1mg tabs.. you can stick with the SSRI if you like, but as long as you're on it then that should ensure the benzos!
