In your opinion, is 60 mg of Codeine enough to SEDATE a totally opiate naive person?

My friend just told me he's having trouble sleeping, so i gave him two (2) 30 mg codeine pills to help him get some rest.

I have a limited supply & i doubt he'd have felt safe taking 4 or 5 pills at once as he knows next to nothing about opiates.

You bluelighters think it'll help him sleep? I honestly cant remember what 60 mg would feel like if i'd never had it b4, tho i hear of some people taking a single 30/500 & saying they feel 'drowsy'

60 mg could provide some sedation for an opiate-naive individual, sure, especially as codeine is usually considered one of the more "sedating" opiates. I know it is considered a weak opiate, but it is metabolized into morphine, which is known as a more "sedating" opiate. I don't know if it would help the individual sleep as opiates can make it more difficult to sleep for some, but there would likely be noticable effects including sedation at 60 mg for an opiate-naive individual. It will likely be a pleasant experience for him. I would never use an opiate to sleep, ever, even if it did help me sleep because opiates aren't about sleep in my mind, that would be a waste.

Our opinion is irrelevant... it COULD sedate someone with no tolerance and another person with no tolerance might not even feel it. There's quite a variance and since we can't possibly know how your friend will react (or has reacted), its futile to speculate so I'm going to close this.

PM me if you have any questions.

EDIT:

I misread this and construed the question incorrectly as the OP asking what would happen to his friend instead of just asking...

So I'm sorry that I was quick to close this and I'll send it over to Basic Drug Discussion hopefully you can get the responses you're after.
