I wrote this poem in 3rd form, high school - just came across it the other day and thought it was a bit of a laugh! (yes yes i was IN LOVE with taylor hanson back then!!!!)
(btw 'Sheridan' was my best friend that year at school, and 'tangalang' was our little cliquey way of saying hello)
IN MY DREAMS
Eight years from now
And I've finally left school
My life is looking
Pretty cool
I've got millions of ponies,
A dog named Fang
And a cockatoo
That can say 'tangalang'
Sunlight covers me
Everyday
On my tropical island
And gold sandy bay
My job?
Well I'm a TV star
I have my own pool
And a stunning car
My husband's name
Is Taylor Hanson
He sings 'mmm-bop'
And he's rather handsome
Everyone stops
To gasp and stare
I'm gorgeous
And I'm a millionaire
Yeah life's a cruise
For Lydia Hanson
With her limousine
And her stylish mansion
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let's jump to the future
My 83rd year
I'm a miserable woman
I'm no millionaire
The ponies are dead
And Fang's got rabies
The cockatoo ate
All it's pedigree babies
No longer a beach babe
I live in mid-city
My pensioner's flat
Isn't what you'd call pretty
My acting's long gone
Forty-one I was fired
And I never did save
For the day I retired
Taylor divorced me
Said I was a loser
He married Sheridan instead
What a user
No one is gazing at me
But why stare
At the clapped-out old Ford
And the messy grey hair?
I'm old and I'm poor
I'm no longer a wife
Oh what did I do
To deserve this life?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wake up, heart pounding
And quickly glance round
At my three mongrel pets
Who are all safe and sound
I head for the kitchen
For hot buttered toast
Never seen Hollywood
Or set foot in Gold Coast
Am I Lydia the schoolgirl?
Boring old me?
Well I've never been famous
Or seen on TV
Married to Taylor?
God, want a bet!
The guy hasn't even
Heard of me....(yet)
Well I guess being ordinary
Isn't the blues
Cause you've got heaps to gain
And there's nothing to lose!
My life can look boring
But not as it seems
Cause life's always interesting
In my dreams
