Edmonton has been a bit higher since COVID, [notice Edmonton's graph is set higher] but they have had similar ups and downs till mid-2024.

I have no clue yet what happened. Carfentanyl is probably part of it, but Edmonton did not get hit with Carfent till this year and the trouble started last year.
This article gives reasons for the rising overdoses, but the carfent timing is off and the other reasons are not convincing IMO
I don't think this Albertan blogger has covered this directly yet, but this site will be useful.
This really shows the futility of "The Alberta Model", 2 cities getting such wildly different 'results'.
