hi all,
i've been smoking high grade bud everyday for the last 3 years.
now I can't afford to buy any at all.
I'm broke and owe money.

what am I in for?
is this cold turkey long lasting?

this sucks so bad.I was doing so great.

Hey bud. You can count yourself as one of the more luckier ones weening yourself off weed is a lot easier mentally and psychically then more harder drugs. You won't go through any sickness, although you may lose your appetite, be more grumpy, and find it difficult to get to sleep within the first week. I always found getting past that first week was the hardest part. Keep yourself active, and when you feel like smoking grab your headphones and go for a walk/run, listen to music, write music, do whatever intrests other then smoking.

What's the financial problem your in if you don't mind me asking?

I've stopped all kinds of things (and occasionally started back up again, addiction's a bitch) and not smoking weed is a walk in the park. Seriously, when you feel like smoking go take a walk in the park. Puts your head in a different place (literally and figuratively), surrounds you with all the beauty nature's got to offer, and if you walk far enough you'll eventually get hungry and tired, so eat some food and take a nap. Try to find joy in the fact that you basically accomplished everything you'd ordinarily accomplish by smoking, but you didn't have to smoke anything or pay anyone for the experience.

I'm trying to get myself totally clean for a while, which includes not smoking weed...I had some trouble eating and sleeping but after 3 days or so I noticed I was feeling the same kind of "normal" I'd get from smoking, but my mind's clearer, I'm significantly less lazy, feelin pretty good about it. I honestly don't miss the high. My roommate's bong's a-bubbling in the next room and I honestly don't give a shit. At least it smells nice. Also I've found a few daily cups of Honeybush tea is making quitting this time a lot less unpleasant.

Ask yourself what you got from it that you valued--did it calm you down? Help you sleep? Help you relax? After you identify what it gave you, and whether that is something you truly want and need, then set about finding non-drug ways to achieve the same states. You will probably be changing more habits than just quitting weed if you are broke and some might have a cross-over effect and help you out, like walking more, not eating out and cooking simpler healthy foods. I have used edibles for sleep for quite a while but I just went to South America for 4 months and had to be instantly and completely without. It was no big deal--I drank herb teas, walked a lot during the day and wore myself out and I actually had no problems. I think it is always a good thing to do without things you think you need--whether it is pot, your cellphone or your car.:\ I hope you get the financial stuff sorted out though--being broke is a bitch.

I know you use this as part of you recovery so I would watch out for a push td.. I would replace the weed with meditation.. I smoke once and awhile now but I meditate daily and find i can get to pretty much the same place with the meditation but with a really clear head.. i do mantra meditation....

thanks so much,you guys.
it's day 1 without any cannabis today.
it feels strange.

the financial problem is foreclosure.

thanks.yeah,on top of everything…
but I fought to have a normal life and this shit happens in normal lives.
it's different from getting ripped off on the street buying drugs.

so yeah,it's money and it's a strain on my relationship w my wife but ultimately
I'm FREE.I now know surrender.i know what matters to me in life.
I'm trying to stay positive.

craving constantly, smoked 20 cigs so far today.

might have some trouble getting to sleep and less appetite and you will be disappointed every now and then but honestly after 3-7 days you dont even want to get high that much anymore. i have been smoking weed on and off for the past 9 years, mostly on though lol.

weed is pretty cool every now and then but taking breaks and not smoking every day seems better since you get much more high and it doesn't become routine and much less money invested. Stay positive

I feel your pain bud, im currently on day 6 and i smoked nearly everyday for 7 and a half years. It was my everything, was never a fan of alcohol really, so anyways ive been going thru hell with imsomnia, not slept a wink. But dont think this will automatically happen for yourself because if you believe that it will probably happen, what the mind believes it believes. Dont turn to benzodiazepeines like i did, yeh it works like hell but all your doing is replacing one habit with another trust me. even a week of benzos you will be back to square one of no sleep. My advice is to go for some cardio training, try tire yourself out. Dont sleep during the day cos you will just fuck up your sleep pattern and itll be alot harder. Also dont be give in to cravings, i did at week 2 and trust me after that i had lost alot of tolerance and the high was particularly unpleasant (panic attacks, time slowed down) im glad i had the experience tho cos i has put me off weed for the rest of my life.
Tl;dr get lots of exerise, dont sleep during the day, no caffeine and dont give in to cravings or harder drugs, consider yourself lucky you arnt going thru heroin withdrawal in tandem(like i stupidly did)

yeah,i have been thinking about using benzo's the first week.
but then I'm fucked.
I sleep on and off and I'm always tired and unmotivated.
I feel like the life is sucked out of me.
i know it's temporary,but it fucking sucks.

it's 4 pm and I have not smoked or done anything desperate.

Agh yes the old 'life is bein sucked out of me' feeling subsides within 48 hours i would say. Thats good man keep up the good work, just remember what your doing it for and continue the way you are you wont have serious symptoms for another week or two. Glad to hear it man, ur doing well.

woke up this friday morning without lighting a joint.
had 3 quick cigs.
I kicked opiates and benzo's,I can do this.

thanks for the replies.

All the best thedawn, the insomnia and weird dreams fade quite quickly over the first couple of weeks IME.

I would be really conscious of using anything with addiction potential to deal with the symptoms due to the risk of replacing one unwanted habit with another.

In particular Benzos or alcohol, both seem ideal as a means to cushion yourself from the discomfort of ceasing heavy habitual cannabis use but both are, IMHO likely to cause much more harm.

I told my psychiatrist about it on the phone just now.
he said to take supplements, exercise and playing guitar.
I was tempted to ask for a week supply of Klonopin, but didn't .

Using benzodiazepines to come off weed is exactly akin to using methamphetamine to come off coffee. It won't be anything to even comment about if you have quit benzo's and opiates before, god damn...

I agree and know what you're saying.
the anxiety is bad though.
it's day 3 and I'm going for a bike ride today.

Anxiety is a perfectly normal reaction under the circumstances. Doing things to alleviate it that are healthy--like your bike ride and what you said in an earlier post about learning things from it (learning about surrender and getting clear about what really matters) are great ways to not only get through this situation but also to build psychological muscle for every other stressful situation you may find yourself in in the future. Good for you.<3

The hardest part of not smoking is not having anything to do. If you have the time some exercise, meditation, hiking, etc will go a long way towards helping any insomnia or lack of appetite. It definitely gets easier day by day.
