Have you ever drowned?
That pretty red hibiscus floated serenely just beyond my chubby baby fingers. It pierced the water's skin with its fairywing petals, its pollen wwand beckoned me. It cast a spell in the heavy silence of the dusk; it glowed and throbbed in vibrant vitality. It was alive, it was perfection, and I wanted it so badly.
I flailed wildy for that red flower; suspended over the mirror of water - stretching, leaning, yearning, hoping...
I went straight to the bottom. The shattered reamins of the spell fell in glassy shards around me, and all I had left were the bubbles in my lungs.
Thank God for goddamn heroic neighbours in dripping wet suits and ties who know how to turn a kid upside down and shake the life out of them. Back into them.
Thank God.
