I got my first car when I was 18 years old. If he's in his 20's and doesn't have a car and is spending his money on opiates, well, he isn't going to have a car for a while.
This is 100% true and clearly came from someone who has had a problem before. Most including myself hit rock bottom before they stop using and then continue using. For me I lost everything and didn't stop until i ended up detoxing cold turkey in intake at the state jail continued by a court order to start pissing clean. No offense to anyone but most of these answers you've gotten are useless. Sadly there is almost nothing you can do but inform him of the dangers. Also IVing is just looked down upon more than snorting. Snorting pills can be just as bad addiction wise just slightly less dangerous, so he could already have developed a major problem. All you can do is show him you are there for him and encourage him to get help, but do not help him with anything that could aid in his using, that will just prolong his using by making it easier for him. He needs to get to a point where it is no longer fun and he is ready to stop on his own and you can only be ready to support him when it gets there. I'm not trying to be negative thats just how 99% of addicts i've know are...
