Important poppy seed tea health warning

Yea PST feels very different then pod tea even, much more stimulating and stoning. I have no doubt its the "unimportant" alkaloids hitting delta or even kappa receptors.

Well the main reason why this all started to worry me is because of a constant pain I've been experiencing in my lower right quandrant of my abdomen for sometime now. The is greatly exacerbated after a day of tea drinking, but I never thought much of it. When this experiment came up, and I did some more research into the kinds of microorgs. or chemicals that can come on spices and seeds, I began to worry.

Don't misunderstand me, I got nothing from this experiment in the class. It only gave me the idea to start investigating this on my own. I'm not relying on anything I did in school, only what I've read and who I've talked to.

From what I've read, it would seem this is liver "pain" I'm feeling. It's common among liver damage and swelling, cirrosis and hepatitis patients feel it quite often. I am relatively sure this is it, since it is a constant, throbbing pain that ebbs and flows in intensity, and it is the exact region where liver pain is supposed to be. I'm not a drinker, and I don't take any other drugs besides poppy seed tea at least once every 3 days. I'm not a hypochodriac or anything. In fact, I've always considered myself pretty resilient. But I just don't see any other alternative here, I pretty much has to be some kind of liver damage or problem. And i'm really quite worried about it. I've been off the seeds for two weeks now, and the pain is still there. I'm young and just accepted to grad school with good prospects ahead. I don't want my life ruined because I became addicted to drinking the sludge of washed off seeds.

So I guess I leave it up to you guys as to whether you are going to continue drinking the tea. It has done something adverse to my body, what that is I'm not sure yet but I am guessing it has to do with my liver. For reference, I've been drinking it for 3.5 years, mostly about 3-4 times a week, sometimes less, sometimes more. I don't know if its pesticides, aflatoxins, too much fatty oils, or what but something in those seeds has made me sick.

A Note on Aflatoxin

SOURCE - Extracted from mold cultures of aspegillus
flavus.

FORM - Colorless crystals when pure.

HANDLING- Should always be handled in a
sealed glove box due to its extreme toxicity and
carcinogenic nature.

DOSAGE - One milligram (depends on purity of
compound).

SYMPTOMS - Loss of appetite, weakness in the
limbs. Autopsy reveals hemorrhage and necrosis of
the liverandengorgement of the kidneys. Identical to
the progressive damage caused by excessive drinking.

DETAILS - Aflatoxins are the poisonous product of
a group of polynuclear molds that grow on peanuts,
corn and in cottonseed meal. They are responsible for
the Turkey X" disease which occasionally devastates
the poultry industry. The presence of the mold doesn't
always indicate presence of the toxin. Toxin production
is dependent on various factors such as moisture
and temperature. There are two basic types of aflatoxins,
both of which are fluorescent under UV (black)
light. Once the mold has been identified, the UVI ight
is an excellent way to check for toxin production.
Aflatoxin B glows blue, while Aflatoxin G glows
green. If at all possible, aflatoxins should only be
handled in liquid form, that is, dissolved ID alcohol,
when outside of the glove box. The pure toxin is fatal
at a dosage of .0063 mg per kilogram of body weight
and is a potent carcinogen in lower doses. Death
usually occurs in about one week. Something this
powerful should be treated with the utmost caution
and respect. The hardest part of aflatoxin production
is finding a suitable mold culture to use as a starter.
A field expedition is in order. A good microbiology
handbook will yield helpful hints on locating and
identifying the mold.

And I hope this doesnt add to anyones paranoia

Newsflash! Everything is bathed with microbes!

There are even tiny insects living in your bedsheets and carpet and (probably) between your ass hairs.

This is true, but the strain of Aspergillus grows specifically on seeds stored improperly, and is a known problem in many countries. Also, poppy seeds likely come with many pesticides and other chemicals on them from cultivation. There is also an abundance of oils and other coatings. All this added up with the MASSIVE amounts that many of us consume, can lead to bad things.

I am not concerned at all with the microbes on the seeds, besides Aspergillus. I am well aware of the amount of microbes that live everywhere, but I think with these seeds we are dealing with excessive amounts and special situations since most of them shipped long distances in dark and damp areas. Also, notice if you've ever done this when you dump the seeds into your tea-making container, a varitable cloud of dust and other particles will go in with them. It is my belief that all of this, the minute amount of Aspergillus, the great amount of oils and other dusts and particles, and the probably coatings of pesticides and chemicals, create a toxic combination. At least for someone like me who has been a habitual user for years.

Quick Question...

Hey!

Hopefully this isn't a completely stupid question, but can one use the seeds from the dried pods we use to make PT for Poppy SEED tea?

Thanks!

If you go to a private clinic or a community outreach center from a major hospital designed for those uninsured you can easily get a blood test for liver enzymes done for under a hundred dollars. A lot of bodybuilders and atheletes get them done pretty regularly with their exotic diets and supplements.

But I will tell you most likely you had cramping, bloating and pain from constipation, opiates/opioids are not nice to your digestive system. I'd think about that before liver damage.

I'm not trying to dismiss your concerns or findings, its just that this was pretty much known already. Hell sometimes I've eaten a whole jar of peanut butter, worrying about future problems is silly when the risk is so low.
