New Legal Drug More Toxic Than Heroin
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A drug known as ethyl alcohol, or ethanol, wreaks havoc on the perception of its users and can outstrip drugs like heroin and cannabis in terms of physical harm.
“I ain’t seen nothin like it before,” says a salesman who wishes to remain anonymous. “You give people some of this stuff and they wake up four hours later in my neighbor’s bathtub.”
Ethanol causes impairment similar to marijuana's, but it can be far more pronounced. Even relatively low doses negatively impact a user’s judgment and coordination. Larger amounts will completely cripple them. It is also metabolized into acetaldehyde, a toxin that can cause heart palpitations and severe gastrointestinal distress.
“Ethanol is popular because it produces some of the same effects as prescription sedatives like Xanax,” says addiction treatment expert Dr. Travis T. Holder. “People can drink a few glasses and forget about their problems for the rest of the night. They don’t realize how dangerous it is.”
“The level of impairment this chemical produces is incredible,” says Dr. Timothy Norton. “It has all the aggression and disinhibition of amphetamine with absolutely none of the cognitive enhancement. It makes people angry and stupid, and they have no awareness of how it affects them. They feel like they can do anything.”
Because of its negative effects on reaction time, driving under the influence of ethanol is extremely dangerous. In some areas, as many as half of all traffic fatalities can be traced back to ethanol consumption.
Aside from that, ethanol can also cause a wide variety of other problematic behaviors. “A bunch of drunks came into my driveway and tried to wash my car with Windex,” recalls John. “They were black,” he adds, trembling. “I about had a heart attack.”
For those who become addicted to ethanol, withdrawal from it resembles that of other sedatives. “I saw pink elephants everywhere and I couldn't stop shaking,” says Carrie, a former addict. “They had to put me on Valium for five days. It was horrible.”
Like many others, Carrie suffered serious physical consequences from her ethanol consumption. “My liver was completely destroyed,” she recounts. “I had to wait three months for a transplant.”
Despite all of its negative qualities, ethanol remains completely legal, at least for now. Some, such as Dr. Holder, are working to change this. “People have this idea that they should be able to do whatever they want,” he says. “They can’t. They’re not smart enough. We need to make these decisions for them.”

I wrote this because of how pissed off this thread made me. It gives alcohol the same sensationalist treatment as that article gave kratom.
EDIT: Oh and that article gets credit for giving me the motivation to write this.
