If this needs to be moved or deleted, I understand.
I know I have another post on BL (in the ff 'other drugs' forum) regarding these medications but saw no reason in bumping it since this is quite a different post.
I have been using benzos for 5 years and I am comfortable with continued use of them but I am beginning to hate Klonopin in particular. When my Psych would switch Benzos or I would request to be switched in the past, I never had any problems trying out new Benzos. sometimes I needed a more hypnotic based Benzo, other times just a pure anxiolytic Benzo. Whatever the case, switching was not an issue.
I've been on Klonopin for 8 months now and my sleep has become utter shat. I wake up numerous times throughout the night and cannot seem to fall into deep REM. I'm using 1.5-2mg Klonopin at night. I know upping the dose may work but I do not want to take that route.
I've had a script for Temazepam for 12 days now, 30-60mg a night as needed, and have not been able to let myself try it. Every night I just end up taking Klonopin, knowing damn well that I will have a decent, at best, night of sleep. I've never been so timid to try a new Benzo. Klonopin has a hold on me that no other Benzo ever has and it's very frustrating. I think my fear is just that the Temaz will not be strong enough (anxiolytic wise, which I need to sleep) and I so desperately need as much sleep as possible for my job.
I've managed to switch over to (20mg of) Valium for my day time anxiety, instead of (1mg) Klonopin, which I'm very happy about but I can't bring myself to not take it at night. I very well might have a great alternative for sleep (the Temaz) but just can't bring myself to try it out because of this draw to Klonopin.
I've used Xanax at 4mg/day for just about this long at one point in my past and had no problems trying other Benzos, just as an example. Why would Klonopin have such a strong effect on me like this compared to other Benzos? I certainly hope the ole "repeating the same thing over and expecting a different result" definition for insanity doesn't hold true to this situation.
I'll be talking with my Psychiatrist about this, of course, but I wanted to vent this somewhere. I apologize if it seems ridiculous when people have much larger issues, this all just boggles my mind. And I'm tired.
