Hi everyone. I'm new to the site. I'm a chronic, sometimes acute, pain sufferer.
Im im just about 43yrs old, and unable to work due to non stop pain. LUCKLY I invested well and make 75k in a bad yr and 300k on a good year
my l4/5 disc was destroyed in a car accident when I was 24. Most of my life I got my on over the counted stuff and a shot of Demerol 1-2 Xs/yr when it would go out in my. Then for many years it didn't bother me, I kept in shape, kept my back muscles strong, no pain meds needed, and it didn't start bothering again until 2007. I'm 6'5" and I weighed at 220 all these years
in 2007, I tore out my right knee playing rugby. I had 6 surgeries over 9 months and was bedridden most of that time (except to hobble to the bathroom). During that time, I gained 100lbs, and by the time the surgeries were done, just getting out if bed lit my lower back on fire. So my Dr put me on 50mg tramadol 2x/day. That worked very well for 2 years, and by 2012, I was back in shape, working. My back would still flare up now and than as I was older. So my Dr gave me an Rx for 90 tramadol to use as I saw fit. I'd go through 2 pills a month avg.
In early 2013, I fell down a flight if stairs. Thus exacerbated my old back injury and my knee injury, plus I broke 5 bones in my left hand and tore over a dozen ligaments and tendons. After 3 hand surgeries, they said that's as good as I could expect. I had 90% functionality back... With one problem .. It ached 24/7. Agonizingly ached .. 8 on a 1 to 10 scale. My knee now constancy ached at about a 6. And my lower back was a 9 every morning when I woke up. The surgeons said to take ibuprofen and to live with the pain.
The pain got so bad that one day I broke down crying in my GPs office. He said I shouldn't live in pain - that my back can't be fixed until technology improved.
so he started me on 2 350mg Soma/day and 2 vicoprofen / day. That helped, but after a few months, it no longer worked. So he changed vicoprofen to Oxycodone IR 15mg. Now THAT made me 100% pain free... But too high to do massage therapy.. He said the high reduce in 7-14days. It did, and I resumed work.
By by the fall of 2013, my tollerance built up again, and he upped me to 2 30mg oxy IR. Plus the soma. (Not to be ramen at once). Again, pain free.... But only for short periods. Just breaking the pain cycle didn't work anymore. So I only used them during working hrs... Then bedridden.
So he moved me to OxyContin 30mg x 2/day, and gave me 15 30mg Oxycodone for breakthrough. The ER ver of oxy kept my 24/7 pain at a 2-4, but now and then it would spike, and I'd use the IR.
Eventually i I became tolerant. And he moved me to 40mg opana x 2 / day & 4mg dilaudid 30 pills a month. I stepped in at this point and expressed my concern that I'm probably already physically and psychologically and didn't want more and more. He said 1) my pain was real 2) I don't DR shop and use multiple pharmacies (there's a national database that track all the narcotics u pick up by your drivers license. 3) he's known me for yrs and knows I'm not drug seeking. 4). That I was addicted to all that and not to worry that he's licensed in Suboxone and would detox me once we hit a certain limit,
so I accepted the RX.. It worked VERY well. Then I decided to stay in bed and not take any for a week. By day 4, I was a hot mess and couldn't stand the withdrawal and went back on it. I told him about it. He said don't do that. Take my meds daily or go no more than 24hrs without
sooo now I'm up to OxyContin 160mg x 2 / day, 2 Rx for breakthrough dilauded liquid 10mL (10mg)... And for BAD days.. Oral fentanyl 200mcg. I'm at my limit. The opioids have caused my to go to the ER 2X for bowl disimpaction. So to prevent that, I add 2 caps of mirilax a day to what drink to keep things soft..but the opioids have put my bowls to sleep which can harm them. So I also take senosides daily which wake them up
im at my limit.. He can't go higher.. The law won't allow it.
Next step.. Detox and get spinal blocks for pain... Do that long enough for all my tollerance to reset... Then I start all over from the button,,,sigh.. I hate all this.. I hate pills.. I'd rather be FIXED.. and I will be in 5 yrs by then..laproscopic back surgery will be ready with silicone implant disks... I'll be be able to get my knee replaced... And my hand will be able to be rebuilt w/o the pain... Then no more damn Rx
