a simple question - when youre doing IM injections, is it really as simple as it sounds? you only have to inject into your muscle, for example, your biceps and then wait a little longer than as if it was IV?
or are there any other rules/procedures i must follow?

Yes, like PhreeX said, its that simple! However, you'll have to be cautious of what your injecting. If your shooting a street drug your taking higher chances IM than IV. If you get some particals in your muscle, you may be left with a real bad infection/absess. The blood stream is probably going to be MORE tolerant than your muscle is going to be.

Its a little more complicated than that. You have to have a general understanding of anatomy to make sure that you're shooting into an area without major blood vessels and nerves. First off, I'd avoid the bicep. The musculocutaneous nerve runs fairly near by, as well as the brachial artery. Don't get me wrong..a lot of people shoot there, but its riskier (you definitely DON'T WANT to hit a nerve!). If you do shoot there, flex your bicep and go for the peak. A much better area is the medial third of the lateral side of your leg (ie: divide your outer thigh into three equal regions and shoot in the middle one). This area is much safer...no major nerve roots or blood vessels to worry about. Another good area is the upper, outer portion of the glutes...no major nerves there either.
Hope this helps

If you hit a nerve, BELIEVE ME, you will know you hit a nerve.. with the artery, blood would shoot into the syringe when you pull back, probably before you pull back, so you would know.. but VikingRage gives some good advice that I will probably put in our "Guide to IM/SC Injections"..

Use the buttock.
If yore going to use the right hand side buttock, divide it into quarters and insert needle into the upper right quarter (upper middle in that quarter).
This is where all IM's are done in hospitals, and it the safest.
Also make sure you use a proper IM sized needle, insulin syringe needles are too short.

you dont HAVE to use longer needles...I do my IM injections in my thigh with 1cc insulin needles and they work fine. and you really dont wanna hit a vein, my friend did that with K the other day and I've never seen somebody so fucked up before--he did 3/4 of a cc, about 75units IV!! it was pretty scary, especially when everbody else there was fucked up as well and nobody was really sure what was going on. dont use your arms, its too risky. go for the thigh or ur ass--i'd assume though that if you went for your butt, you'd need longer needles but the insulin needles are fine for your thigh--muscle is right there on top and you dont have to do any digging.
