Staying in this nifty looking little retreat about an hour from Iquitos. Will be doing the retreat for a total of 10 days, but will be in Peru for a total of six weeks.

Words can't really express my excitement. As a 28 year, college educated, white male, I have definitely done my share of using/ dosing..... never with anything like ayahuasca though. The most I've done is mushroom munching. If everything I've seen/ read on the aya comes to fruition I'm in for one hell of a ride.

Any of you here have any experience with Ayahuasca? If you've never heard about it, check it out. A life altering 'medicine' from the Amazon rainforest.

Here's a little copy/ pasta for you about Ayahuasca:

"The primary active compounds in B. caapi are the alkaloids harmine, harmaline and tetrahydroharmine. They all belong to the β-carbolines group, which implies they are MAO-inhibitors. The primary active compound in P. viridis and D. cabrerana leaves is the indole ethylamine alkaloid n,n-dimethyltryptamine. Tests of different samples of Amazonian brews have found 25 to 36 mg of N,N-DMT per dose. It has a similar structure to serotonine and thus has affinity for several serotonergic 5-HT2 receptors. DMT is, like LSD, a partial-agonist on the receptor subtype 5-HT2A. When humans take DMT by itself orally, it is converted into inactive aldehydes by the endogenous enzyme monoamine oxidase.

The β-carbolines in the vine temporarily inhibit the production of this enzyme, allowing the DMT to reach the sensitive parts while still active. Inside the nervous system these are located near most of the serotoninergic terminal rich areas, including the neocortex (mainly the prefrontal, parietal, and somatosensory cortex) and the olfactory tubercle. Outside the nervous system 5-HT2A receptors are present in platelets (cell fragments, circulating in the blood, that are involved with clotting) and some muscles."

That's so awesome, I would absolutely love to do that! How do you get signed up for this? Is it sort of one of those you gotta know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy etc..? Or is it something that anyone can participate in?

The only time I've had DMT is in my house, after a party, and a friend busted out his changa pipe. Smoking DMT was all in all probably the most positive drug experience I've ever had, even though it was not a high dose. Changa is apparently "DMT-lite". Don't let that fool you though, it was one of the most powerful and overwhelming experiences I've ever had, but again, 100% positive, welcoming, non-invasive energy just pouring from every cell of my body. I won't even bother trying to describe the experience, the necessary words don't exist... :)

Good luck!!

you're doing this for 10 days straight? once a day? sounds interesting, I'd definitely like to hear how it went once you get back from your trip

That sounds pretty damn awesome. I'm hoping to really find myself as a person. I think in my subconscious I was treating this little pilgrimage to Peru as a spiritual thing, but for fear of sounding like a cheese dick I kept that to myself amongst my friends and what not. I'm really hoping I come away as a different person, which I probably will. I've never had any experience with DMT, but this place is well a renown establishment so I'm not worried about much. %)

Edit: Missed the first part of the question. Just google ayahuasca retreats! Of course you have to dig a little to find something that has a legitimate reputation and isn't some turd feeding you angel trumpet tea. Check out this link: http://www.mishkitaki.org/main/?page_id=41#Cusco

I'm at the retreat for 10 days. There are five ayahuasca trips. The next day, after each experience, you sit with a counselor/ shaman to discuss your experiences and to understand what exactly you went through and how to apply what you have learned to your life. I'll try to keep this thread updated.

Omg, that sounds amazing. Have fun, be safe! From what I understand it's like one long dmt trip and dmt is one of the most interesting most positive substances I have ever had the pleasure of consuming.

A friend of mine went to Peru for the same sorta thing. Said it was very difficult. They put him on a very strict diet and gave him a list of things he couldn't do for an extended period of time before and after the trips. He wasn't allowed alcohol, coffee, jackin' it, etc.

I've never done DMT, but I"m extremely interested. Especially in oral form. I'm hoping with 5 rituals and the discussions that will go along with the experience all will be okay.

I've read this too. I emailed them to see what the restrictions are, but no matter what I'm going to abstain from basically those same things. I've started doing it now actually. I really want to get all I can from this experience.

I did this about a year and a half ago, went to a retreat and did 4 ayahuasca ceremonies in the jungle just outside of iquitos.

It was definitely an amazing experience, i learned alot and grew as a person for sure. Be careful though, if you have some bottled up crap inside of you like i did you might have a scary trip. My last trip was incredible though, it was blissful and spiritual and i came out of it feeling cleansed and healed. But a few of the other trips i had... yikes. Some scary shit thats all i remember ha.

^ take that with a grain of salt. you must prepare to face your demons. I'm excited for you hahahaha i'm sure it will be amazing.

I am totally prepared to face what has built up inside of me. It's something I've always wanted to experience on hallucinogens but have never been able to 'get there'. That said: I'm pretty comfortable with myself and I know the person I am. I'm also generally happy. That's not to say I haven't had difficult times, especially in childhood, but at this point in my life I feel like I have no issues with them and can be the person I want to be without restrictions. My friends would agree. That said I realize I may have issues and disorders/ flaws which I don't even realize are there. I'm hoping this can truly open me up to the universe and my true potential as a human being. I'm pretty excited and prepared to have any experience that comes.

I hope you enjoy it but taking a psychedelic around a bunch of strangers isn't my idea of fun. And talking it over with a stranger the day after doesn't really appeal either.

But if you like the idea then good luck.

I definitely hear you on this one. Luckily I'm a people person and really open to interesting situations. When I was younger people would piss me off, but as I've gotten older I've learned to just laugh at situations that would annoy me or take things with a grain of salt.

In the situation of the ceremony I will be in such a good state of mind that I will be able to put up with anything. Plus, I like learning about other people and what not.... I guess you can say I work well in a group :D

this sounds extremely interesting, funly enough I have wanted to do something like it for a long time and I probably will do it this coming year when I have worked enough to permit me a few months of travelling :)

Hope it works out for you - quite a jump going from not ever trying ayahuasca to a 10 day retreat tho! Kinda like changing your career from accountancy to lion-taming in one go. Didn't you fancy trying ayahuasca in your house and seeing what you thought of it?

If you do this, try to be mindful of the fact that these shamans have a limited and arbitrary model of reality, just like any other human being, experienced with psychedelics or not. Don't accept what they tell you simply because they're coming from what appears to be a position of authority. Be as skeptical and as critical as you would be when receiving advice from a square or a random druggy on the internet, like me.

Oh and good luck!
