Erm... what can I say? Interesting endeavour you've got going on there, Mugz.
So is this to be the kind of language in which we could one day hope to see faithful renderings of the complete works of Shakespeare or (whisper it) a satifactory translation of Rimbaud? Or is it going to be a more utilitarian affair, designed purely to facilitate the kind of basic dialogue necessary for commerce and the like?
Moreover, what do you want this language to achieve which other existing languages have failed to deliver, if anything?
h
I know those are questions rather than suggestions, but bear with me.
It is going to be more of a language where basic dialogue can be exchanged, preferrable with the least amount relating to commerce though. More of a language where phrases can be written and exchanged and understood. I intend to perfect it more before I post any of the symbols first though and then post a few phrases with the symbols next to the phrases and some explanations of the symbols and their meanings.
There will be more than one word or phrase or thought in each symbol, but there will be adjoining marks that will differentiate which is being intended in that particular sentence. It will obviously grow with time as every language does over time but at the start it will be pretty basic in form and will be open to suggestion and thought.
I don't really know what I intend to achieve from this, other than just having some fun inventing a new language that works :D I would really like to create the language, then post all of the symbols and meanings, and then post a few phrases and the meanings of those phrases, and then post a phrase/sentence and see if people can understand the language well enough to understand what is meant by it.
There is a lot Mugz - to give one random example: In English, we always say "the big brown bag", not "the brown big bag". There are SO many unwritten (lol) rules, most of which we are unaware of unless we study linguistics.. word order, how words change depending on what other words they are next to, tenses etc... the example I gave is a random and not so important one really, but it would sound odd if someone said the second phrase. Would your language copy our structure just with different words/letters?
Tolkein invented his own language but I think it took him a while, haha...
Word orders and tenses won't be as important as most languages today, as even when a foreign person says something in the wrong way, say when a french person says "can I have a flower red" please you know what he means. It is going to start of basic, but understandable.
There are no words or letters, it is going be purely based on symbols, like the old languages, the ancient egyptian ones for example. There will be no As Es Is Os or Us or any other alphabetical letter in the language. Just symbols that represent words/ideas/phrases/sentences and then smaller symbols that are there to point the reader to the meaning of the full sentence/phrase.

You know those psychological test thingies, asking you to respond to various statements with ranges from strongly agree to strongly disagree. Well one of the statements i have seen was "I have invented my own langauage". I cant remember though what is was meant to be a symptom of, i think it was either creative genius or Schizophrenia lol. I think some people would argue theres not much difference.
I showed one of the first two phrases that I have come up with with the language that I have created to a friend today and he said it was very creative and was genuinely impressed. The phrase was "I fear you" or "I am scared of you" and one symbol which means why changed the whole phrase to "Why am I afraid of you?" He totally understood the language that I created with just that one example and wished me luck in finishing it. It is going to be fun trying to make this work
In regards to schizophrenia and creative genius, there is a fine line. It actually used to be my signature before sigs were taken away from us.
"There is a fine line between genius and insanity, and I am walking that line"
