First off, I'd say take a visit to the doctor. I know you said you're just unemployed, but paying for a physical is worth it to make sure you don't have any physical problems that have developed over the sedentary years. I know 24 is young, but it's not so young that you might not have some blood pressure issues (especially from unhealthy diet, smoking, drinking, etc.)

Obviously, try to quit smoking. Drinks? Keep 'em. Just don't make them an everyday thing, or lots at once binge-drinking thing.

Start small. Work your way up. Cardio cardio cardio. Building muscle is one thing, but cardio is going to get you back into some fitness shape, though it's going to take more work to be physically shaped-up.

And like everyone else said, you can't sit around waiting for motivation to hit you. If you don't currently have a job, you should be taking advantage of some of the extra free time and get a good fitness regime going and take the time to make some meals that taste good and treat your body well. Excercise first thing in the morning when you wake up so it's out of the way. Say you'll exercise later in the evening and I guarantee you'll find something else to occupy your time.

Just make small changes in your diet... don't try to eat stuff you don't like just because its healthy, you'll just be misrible. Find healthy food that you LOVE and only buy that!! Plan your meals ahead.

Who cares whether or not you like the food?

Just throw some chicken breast, tuna, spinach, tomatoes, & brown rice into a big bowl, mix it up, and divide it into about six or seven feedings.

Train like a Spartan!

^^yeah, when you're going for calories, you really just need to think happy thoughts and put it down.
