The virus itself can't be cured, but the warts can be treated. From what I understand, if you manage to stay symptom-free for around 6 months, you're no longer infectious. I had a few sessions of cryosurgery (freezing them with liquid nitrogen), which hurt like hell and didn't help at all. Then I was prescribed a cream called Aldara, which also hurt like hell, but it worked great. The wart completely disappeared after I applied the cream 3 times a week for a month. Sounds like a long time, but in some cases Aldara can take up to 4 months to clear the warts.
Jeezes that must have been hell at times. I got infected with HPV but it was the one that didn't really show symptoms. My symptom was one tiny, barely visible or touchable little growth that I just scratched off with my fingernail cuz it was so annoying. Then I looked it up online, got tested and it was HPV. I read that the symptom free strains are the cancer causing ones thou so I guess it was good and bad that I got the one I got. After I got infected I had abnormal pap's for a few years and recently I finally got a normal one which means the virus has cleared up! Yay!
Since u said that if u stay symptom free for 6+months then u r no longer infectious. How about the strains that are symptoms free. HPV causes genital warts and there are many different strains. It's possible that u have 2 strains, one symptom free and one with symptoms. It's hard for me to believe that just cuz u don't show symptoms then u r not infectious. The virus can still be there in remission. The only way for u to know if u r not infectious is by getting a sample tested for the presence of the virus. Otherwise there is not way to know for sure since some strains are symptom less but yet are spreadable.
