I have ADD and am a long-time addict to just about every abusable class of drugs there is at one point or another. I would not be able to use Adderall, pretty much because I have no desire to use amphetamines without achieving a buzz, and prescribed amounts would only frustrate me. Also, after years of stimulant abuse, the threshold for me to slip into a borderline psychotic state is very slim. It sounds like the way you're doing it is the only way most addicts would be able to pull it off. Although, I've known people who were addicted to drugs like heroin and cocaine, who for some reason didn't feel compelled to abuse their ADD meds, so I guess your individual history and DOC could play a big role in whether or not you could handle dispensing the meds to yourself. I've also known people who abused drugs like Adderall but could leave a prescribed bottle of hydrocodone sitting there for months with no temptation.
For someone like me, unless it's something on the level of cough-syrup or antipsychotics, if it can be abused I'll probably abuse it at some point, if your definition of abusing drugs includes using them recreationally. Which for many in the recovery community, taking a few hits off a joint before a show is the same as shooting up in an alleyway as far as "relapse" goes....
