Kratom If you get into extracts can you ever be satisfied with plain leaf again?

So I've been able to avoid 7-OH so far by hearing so many people talk about how addictive it is. Thankfully I heard about it before it showed up at my local head shop and I know that if I do it even once I'll probably get dependent, but by not ever doing it I don't know what I'm missing so I can resist it.

However, I absolutely love OPMS black and other extracts like it. I used to be fine with plain leaf powder and it really worked well for me even though I'd sometimes get into dosing high. And the thing is, I actually go long periods of time without Kratom. I'll go on a 3 month break just because I think I should, and my tolerance DOES go down again. Before the other day I hadn't used any in 3 months, and I took a dose of plain leaf. It felt good, but not as good as I wanted, so I broke and went to my head shop and bought OPMS black and felt incredible off it.

Now I know my tolerance is already higher to the point that I won't be satisfied with plain leaf powder, but I think that if I stopped again for a month that it should hit me hard again.

Do you guys think it's possible to EVER go back at this point and be satisfied with taking just plain leaf? Cause the thing is, as mentioned, the desire to go for the OPMS is largely psychological AT FIRST cause after these breaks I can feel it pretty good, but I always go back to OPMS. I'll use some plain leaf for sure, but only to potentiate the extracts.

At the same time though, I honestly don't feel that the WD from OPMS is any worse than that from plain leaf, so really the only big problem is the money cause it costs a lot more to keep buying these shots than taking plain leaf.

And why are people always saying to stay away from extracts like they are so bad? Cause objectively it really isn't worse IMO in the same way as 7-OH.

So yeah, just wondering if you think someone like me who has fallen in love with the extracts can ever go back to plain leaf and be satisfied.

Yes. If you take a much more potent version of the drug you’re currently taking the likelihood of harms is going to increase.

You think about the harms associated with coca leaves compared to cocaine, opium compared to heroin. The higher the potency the more the potential harms are amplified.

As to whether it’s possible for someone to take a more potent anologue of the drug they already take and go back to the weaker anologue? Ya I mean, it definitely is possible but the most important piece of that equation is *you*.

It sounds like you want someone to tell you it’s okay to try it but I think you probably know how much of a fiend you yourself are and that if you start taking a much more convenient, potent dosage format that you’re probably going to convince yourself to keep doing it.

Yes. It is true that in a lot of ways extracts or 7oh aren’t that different than an equivalent dosage of plain leaf (well the 7oh is because it’s one minor constituent of plain leaf) but it is an escalation.

It’s kind of like when you move into intravenous drug use from smoking, snorting or popping pills.

In a very black and white sense all you’re doing is making the dosage you have much more efficient! Really that’s smart if anything!

But you’re increasing the stakes. Which is what you’re doing when you move on to a much more potent format. If you really want to be able to keep having fun using opioids, you don’t want to be upping the stakes.

What I’ve learned in 17 years of opioid use/dependence is that although the more potent, more rapid acting drugs/methods of administration feel so much better initially. The arms race is not worth it because you’ll just get used to that new stronger form and be back where you started.

I’m sure other IV users must be able to relate to how when you’re shooting up regularly you don’t even notice the high anymore, all you’re concerned with is that fleeting rush and after that you might as well be sober.
