If weed was made legal would it be cheaper?

All this talk about legalization. I've discussed it with my friends but I don't think we know what were talking about... Also would it be easier to find some quality bud as well?
 
there would be state and federal taxes on the shit, so I don't think it would be dirt cheap. Look at alcohol you can buy ABC 151 for 10 bucks or Gran Patron for 800. So to answer your question dirt weed would still be cheap(prerolled mass produced like cigs), but stupidly chronic name brand nuggs would still cost a good amount, but nowhere near today's price. I can't give you a number as I don't know the model companies would use to price the product.
 
my guess is that good shit would be easier to find, but prices would stay about the same (or possibly go down just a bit).
 
I think that prices would have to go way down if they expect to make money off of it. Even if it were 200 for an ounce of high quality pot I'd rather grow my own.
 
Its a bit of a tricky thing to guess. Odds are it would drop significantly, in my opinion.

If we use the current pending California legislation as a model, you could expect about a $50 per ounce tax. this translates to roughly $1.75 per gram or ~$6.25 for 1/8. The increase in supply if it were legal could drive the price down more than enough to compensate for this, but the demand may increase as well, especially on the good stuff, so there's no way of knowing for sure, or how different states would tax it. But no longer having the risk of going to jail or prison, bail money, legal fees, fines, probation, your girlfriend being pissed cause you went to jail on her birthday: Priceless

Brings up a good point..

If legal weed was more expensive then home grown (which i'm sure most people know can yield some amazingly strong plants with the right equipment) would become less illegal (i'm guessing) so more people would risk doing it and would do it rather more openly.. so if you didn't wanna pay for the nike brands of the spliff world you could always get some home grown, just as strong shiz off of the guy next door ;)
 
I love how everyone says grow your own, yes some would, but how many cigarette smokers do you see growing their own tobacco? It's not worth the time for a lot of people.
 
imo cali super premiums on the illicit market are more or less at the price they'd be if legalized, I'd expect they'd probably eat the tax stamp and otherwise maintain. It's down about 33% on the oz in the last 5 years (which was less than most other locations still pay for that grade or one below). I'm not allowed to say what that is though right? Don't forget overhead would generally go up so I don't know for sure. Practically there isn't really that much cost related to it being illegal in terms of losses, lawyers, etc. Status quo there though is that it's defacto ignored combined with medical cover for everyone growing. I guess huge warehouse operations might spring up and take some of the market but it would be hard for them to take the very high end that way which is where a lot of the action is.

Perhaps y'all know this, but interestingly the "legal" medical weed sold out of clubs or co-ops has always been from the very start significantly more expensive than the exact same identical weed from the same grower in the black market. Both prices have come down (for a long time club prices were insane), but they have always run ~$100-~$150 over on a single oz for the same harvest (of course really different clubs, dealers and strains all vary, there is no one price). So hell, if clubs are a model it could go up??

But from what I've seen for some crazy prices in random suburbia or wherever throughout the central and east the super premiums would definitely free fall, by more than 50% in some places if folks are to believed. Probably some of thos reports are kids 9 rungs down on the chain that are getting raped, but it would by nature all even out.

Really when you talk about cheap or not, you have to evaluate what would be on the A++ market and that really it would price to what people were willing to pay. Premium brands get premium markups in every industry. Sure no liquor prohibition probably allows them to pump out those stupid plastic jugs of vodka for cheap, but it also allows the stores to stock fine wines and liquors. And personally I buy 15 year old single malt.

Well, hop on an airplane and that's already what it is. And while I have no way of knowing what you have going on, just by sheer genetics, equipment and attention product that would edge out your OMGWOW grow by maybe 10%-30% or just plain blow it out of the water.

So I mean that's awesome if it's a hobby slash labor of love, i'm sure there would be a lot of people that felt that way, after all tons of folks garden. But they aren't driving the price of tomatoes down.

Perhaps I'm too tired, but I don't get your airplane metaphor. It's much easier to grow even some very potent autoflowering (lowryder crosses) plants than you think, which I'm sure is where the future of pot growing for personal use is at.
I have never seen a tomato garden and the only vegetable garden I have seen/ heard people talk about is the one my grandparents have. On the other hand I know a few people who grow pot, which I'm sure would multiply exponentially if pot were legal and 300 dollars an ounce.

Even if you don't go with an easy to grow type of weed, 300 dollars should get you most of the equipment you would need to grow pounds.
 
What i was saying is... it already is $200 or less a zip right now, for the best US grades out there. Just not where you live. And if you're not looking for a top brand that's more akin to a pricey wine there are plenty more "almost top shelf" for even less.

I have seen it flower and smoked Diesel-Ryder and it was one of the strongest highs I have ever experienced, with an estimated THC level of 17-19% and goes from seed to harvest in about 8 weeks.
I'm in a pretty good world, although not everything in my world is so nice and easy.
 
proboably like amsterdam or slightly cheaper, maybe 10$ a gram for super a grade bud.
 
Look, I blew it off the last time and wished you good luck. I'm really trying not to say anything. I mean if you enjoy it that's all that matters. In any case this thread is certainly not the place. If you'd really like to talk about it, make a new thread about your diesel x ryder dwarf and I'll be happy to talk hype & genetics & mutants and maybe others will too. Otherwise let's just chill, ok?

i guss it would be like alcohol is today, go into a store get u sume ,show id, pay , driving high would still be illegal of corse im gussing it would be cheaper and better quility- or a nightmare would be that it starts off better and cheaper then as everyone starts going to wal mart for there weed and use illegal weed less and less than the gov starts taxing like a mofo just like they are on ciggerets now that would suck

but then again it would drive the price of illegal weed down aswell witch is less money in criminals pockets . im hoping they will at the very least decrimminalize it . that way it stayes un regulated and ppl still make money on it but stay out of jail/ however it would be better for the government to leagalize it for its own good 1. they could regulate it like they do with alcohol and tax the hell out of it witch gennerates income for the country
2. less ppl in jail for poss = less tax money going to pay for ppls incarteration
3. less criminal activity with weed because its legal- just like what happened after they got rid of provivtion
4. create jobs- the first thing id do if they legalized it is go get all my paperwork and licience to sell weed legaly and so would every other pot head in the us cause it would be somthing they r good at and like me love doing it
that would be my dream job -using my expertise to give sumthing back and help educate ppl on the uses of mj-
5. it would have sum down sides to but no more than the curent gay system in place right now...:p
 
I always figured they would make growing it illegal or very hard to do at best. A license to sell liqour is like 6 digits i think I wonder what they would model the prices on. Seems like it could go up or down drastically, but I hope down (obviously)
