If I have this side effect from vicodin will I most likely have it from Oxycodone?

I was on and off vicodin for a year and a half.It helps with pain as well as giving me a boost of energy. Usually only needed it 2-3 times a month . Lately I've noticed auditory hallucinations from it.(only take .5/500) if I'm having that side effect and switch to oxy, are they alike enough for it to happen with that as well? I've never been on Oxycodone

That's a new one to me, and that boost of energy it what I like to refer to as "euphoria" lol. Normally Vicodin (hydrocodone) works well all around for pain (short acting) and the high is better than oxy IMO. I don't remember having any side effects from that. Oxy for me has an ok high, works well for pain, but can cause some increased heartbeat, but subsides after being on it a day or two. That is my experience, but hope it helps.

its called tinnitus, its a side effect of the APAP in the vicodin. its probably not a good thing, it could mean you are damaging your hearing (i say it could mean because im not sure). both oxy and hydrocodone are supposed to cause hearing loss in the long term (according to wiki anyway) so making a switch probably wouldnt make much of a difference unless you could get oxy without apap. heres a little exert from wikipedia about what you might have heard if what you were experiencing was tinnitus

"Tinnitus can be perceived in one or both ears or in the head. It is usually described as a ringing noise, but in some patients it takes the form of a high pitched whining, buzzing, hissing, screaming, humming, tinging or whistling sound, or as ticking, clicking, roaring, "crickets" or "tree frogs" or "locusts," tunes, songs, beeping, or even a pure steady tone like heard in a hearing test.[5] It has also been described as a "wooshing" sound, as of wind or waves.[6]"

Or opiate induced Psychosis....which is rare.

I would get on pure oxycodone ASAP, and refuse anything with APAP.

Any specific reading I could do on this condition? I've been on 300mg+ oxycodone daily for 5 years and feel like I'm in a psychosis like state sometimes. PM me if you like, thanks. I'll check Google too.

I really wouldnt know. Honestly I just got that from watching house, but I hear its possible.

I would think that this is related either to tinnitus as the previous poster suggested, or, depending upon your age, it might be some underlying mental illness that is beginning to manifest.

edit - opioid induced psychosis is exceedingly rare and really only manifests in people who have been addicts for years with massive daily doses.

If memory serves me correctly, its not the APAP that causes tinnitus and hearing problems, it is the opioid itself because it increases pressure in the ear.
