Identifying GHB by taste

I've had what I thought was GHB a few times but I remember a few weeks ago I got some solid GHB so I dissolved it in water and drank it and I'm fairly sure that it wasn't the same thing as what I had gotten before. The solid stuff tasted salty whereas the liquid I had before had a strange chemical taste. I got a vial of GBL a few days ago and instantly recognized the strange chemical taste. Would I be right in assuming that real GHB tastes salty while liquid with that weird chemical taste is GBL?
