Idea on sanitary injection technique: preparing shots w/ solutions of Lugol's iodine

Lugol's iodine, also known as Lugol's solution, first made in 1829, is a solution of elemental iodine and potassium iodide in water, named after the French physician J.G.A. Lugol. (Wikipedia)

This is used as a supplement and a cleaning agent (limited use, as there are cheaper forms of iodine used for cleaning).

Iodine has very good sanitzing properties: http://ehs.research.uiowa.edu/826-iodine-and-iodophors

What would be the benefit of the potassium iodide in it? As opposed to just using regular iodine, which is probably a better choice than isopropyl alcohol or H peroxide, that is plain iodine.

For our purposes, I don't know if there would be any benefit, but the premise behind the Lugol's iodine mixture is that it's more compatible with the body. I'm not sure of the concentration that would be appropriate for IV solutions, but if it approached medicinal doses of Lugol's iodine, then one would want to use Lugol's iodine as opposed to "regular iodine", assuming this premise is correct.

which is probably a better choice than isopropyl alcohol or H peroxide

Well I am just going on the basis that when dealing with deep wounds (anything reaching the subcutaneous layer) iodine is the best choice for a disinfectant. But to disinfect equipment I would probably use isopropyl, though it might be better to use iodine on the body to prep the injection site and wipe it off after injection. The problem with using isopropyl on the body is the drying action it has and peroxide is it actually too strong.

If you are talking about actually injecting the solution then I think it would be poison but it should be great for cleaning.

I'm talking about actually injecting the solution (this is clear). No, it's not poison. As stated in the original post, it's primarily a supplement, but it doubles as a cleaning agent. And I Googled and determined that iodine is given intravenously. (Almost everything that can be swallowed can also be given intravenously (even water insoluble drugs, which can be solubilized using chemicals.))

Well, I did this. Put about 5 mg of iodine in about 10 ml of water and used this water to prepare my shots. Three times. And I of course let the heroin sit in the water for a bit, so that the sanitizing effect could actually manifest.

Any adverse or noticeable effects different from using water?

Nope. I would have said so in my previous post. One thing I should have specified is that I did not inject all 10 ml of solution. I did 3 ½ CC shots using the solution. And I made a mistake in my previous post: five milligrams (not 5,000). Post has been edited.
