Ice in the bong? (@_@)

smoke is bad regardless....you breathe in cold air in the winter dont you. so techinically living here in canada is bad for your lungs in winter then techincally lmao. not true at all. our body has tools in place to warm cold air. your hits are probably not smooth because of the following (you really dont need ice, i dont like it cuz it rasies the water level constantly and stains the bong unless you make them out of distilled water like i do but even then you might get some hard water stains)

1) butane is digusting and tastes aweful and is harsh. when you switch to beeline omg you feel and taste the difference. when you move on to glass glow rods there is no comparison, but beeline is easy to use for big seshions.
2) keep your piece and bowl clean constantly. i cant even stand a little resin on the bowl glass screen, makes the hit nasty and harsh.
3) experiment with water levels., you wont believe the smoothness 1-2cm of water adds to your piece.
4) a diffuser is a better investment then a bubbler or ash catcher. look for ones with holes over shitty slits, or grab 60 bucks go with gold, roor (25 hole diffy)

Ice bongs are no more harmful than non-icy ones. I'm too lazy to bother myself, and as it melts it fucks up your water level and spills out the carb.

well common sense told me to put less water in bc as the ice melts aside from mass in water , it will obviously add more water...answer....add less water with your ice cubes...not to much water...win

durr someones getting a smile cookie. i have a roor. not a ten gallon jug. a couple cm`s of water dripping down is too much so it has to be emptied. why would u not start out with your normal water level then empty as needed to return to optimal water level.....fail.....i win. thats why its better to use the techniques i listed over ice because the OP probably doesnt have a great setup if hes just discovering ice pinches lmao. You can remove all harshness without ever using ice.

how is water vapor that bad for your lungs? Have u ever lived in a place with 100% huminidity? U never hear about the danger of 100% humidity on the lungs so why would water vapor from the bong be any worse. If u live in a cold place with 100% humidity the same thing would happen and there are no health alerts now are there...

Well IMO "significant enough to matter" might be as little as a 1-5% difference in rates of alveolitic prolapse occurrence, especially in regular tokers.

I really doubt this would happen, myself. The air droplets you inhale would be warmed on their way down to the lungs; by the time they reach your alveoli they would be at the same temperature as the rest of your body. Yes, they get there pretty damn quick, but their tiny size means it takes very little to heat them - the humid environment of your trachea is more than enough. Also, they water is absorbed across the membrane, so couldn't cause prolapse in this context.

What could potentially happen is that the extra water vapour aids tar and such collecting within your lungs, as when it is absorbed it leaves those components behind on the basement membrane. However, since it's all going to the same place anyway I can't see it having a significant effect at all. Happy bonging!

While I fully understand the concern, and appreciate the thought put into the response, I would disagree that there is potential for harm. Our lungs can safely handle on overpressure of 0.3-0.5atm. While I'm not familiar with the temperatures involved, I doubt there is enough change to nearly double the volume, what would be required for injury.

If I'm missing something, let me know...

if anything its BETTER to use ice because of the reduction in heat. i dunno haha. saying that using ice is bad is pretty out there. theres really no reason why it would harm you

smoke already contains water vapour so adding a bit more won't change much. the rest of smoke is particulate matter which neither contracts nor expands from cold or heat. all it does is lose energy, making particles more apt to hang around in your lungs rather than leave. i never really understood the appeal of ice in a bong. warm water makes a smoother hit fsho

For those of you who say it is damaging: Most people on a breathing treatment need to have a special machine, right? Well, usually those machines use steam or a vapor, which the patient then breathes in. Can't be too harmful.

ice bongs ftw.

ice ftw.

you get more baked than expected too, cause it makes the hits that would make you choke much more tolerable...so you're like all of the sudden like damn.....
