there are a number of drugs that are off record use for Irritable Bowl Syndrome. I am wondering if there anyone out there who suggest one or two? I can think of some opiate analogs and old anti-depressants (especially the one only available in France).

uh i thought opiates caused constipation...

try increasing fiber, using laxatives and propylene glycol

I was looking for a non opiate solution. They work well, too well for me personally. In my case the symptoms are similar to opiate wd. I have tried the high fiber diet with bad results... cramping, bloating, nausea...IBS was a large part of my reason for using opiates and consequently destroying my life. Just wondering if anyone has ever used some of the "unconventional" drugs as treatment? i.e. Tianeptine??? or is that even available in N.A.?

From what I have heard from IBS sufferers, benzodiazepines are sometimes prescribed to prevent IBS, because most of IBS is caused by anxiety. Of course, that class of drugs is not worth to take everyday, as the withdrawal is nothing to be trifled with.

ibs sucks. it's one of the reasons i got onto daily opies as well (have since quit, but without plenty of immodium, i "leak".. tmi yea)

@blossom some ibs involves constipation, some ibs involves diarea. the OP and i are on the diarea side

@rm-rf when someone turns to drugs for a problem, that usually means those methods have not worked

Find proper diet, do some relaxing practice, youga, quigon etc
sometimes small amount codeine helps. i mean really small 20-30 mg
