So has anyone heard of this or even tried it? I am really curious about it after hearing of it for the first time just a few minutes ago. I looked it up on Wikipedia which only piqued my interest even further.

Would you try it? What do you think about it? What are some other new treatments that have been developed over the past few years? I'm a bit out of the loop at this point 'cause I've been sober but I can remember when Suboxone was like this completely new, amazing wonder drug (er... so many people said). Do you think any of these treatments even work long-term or do you still believe kicking it cold turkey is the only way to get it over with (without using drugs to get off drugs)?

Discuss Ibogaine and newer forms of treatment as well as other kind of off-the-wall treatments.

I suppose it should also be mentioned that it's a Schedule One drug in the U.S. and therefore illegal. I think most people have to travel out of the country to obtain it from what I can tell.

Theyve got ibogaine hospital in mexico..seen a documentary about a heroin addict using it to detox and it seemed to work but eventually he ended up relapsing again and going to prison. It's called "Facing the Habit"

I'm watching it now and you just ruined the ending for me, jerk!

I kid. But I am watching it right now. I figured he relapses in the end at the start of the movie though. It just sounded too good to be true that someone could fly to Mexico, trip for eight hours, and then be cured of an opiate addiction.

Anyway, I also posted a thread in Drugs in the Media about this documentary and hopefully it will garner a discussion on drug-related documentaries and movies, or even shows like Intervention. I find them to be very fascinating for some reason. Everyone I know HATES Intervention--they say it's "so depressing"--but I love that show and I've probably seen almost every episode, especially now that I have Netflix :P But yeah, I've always enjoyed watching documentaries, movies, and shows like this for some weird reason. Perhaps it's morbid curiosity? Or even a reminder of how far I've come? It's a lot of things, really =)

Ah, I just saw the part where he refused to go into aftercare. There's his mistake...

Yeah he didn't have any aftercare set up for when he got home which highly encouraged by the ibogaine center. I found it pretty interesting how he took it and the next day or two when he wakes up he's able to move around and not be in withdrawal anymore..so if someones looking for at least a painless detox ibogaine seems to help in that regard. But it's the same as someone using methadone or subs or any other drug to quit their addiction, if you don't fix the root of the problem of why you used in the first place and get treatment to fix it, then taking however much ibogaine or maintenance drugs in the world isn't gonna do shit once you leave the building and are clean for a little while then the cravings come back again, you need ways to deal with the cravings, which you get at aftercare places..

And yeah I love intervention as well Ive got a lot of lesser known drug documentarys i could post sometime that you will prolly be interested in as well Theres another show on TLC called "Addicted" which focuses on them using then having a intervention they are aware of with their family, then it shows them going thru detox/rehab afterwards.

I too was wondering how he was able to feel soooo good just a few days after stopping heroin. I was really surprised that this Ibogaine stuff could do so much for withdrawals. I just finished and it was sad how his girlfriend OD'ed after the movie was done. Sad but not surprising. It also said that nine out of ten heroin addicts never recover =/ I'm not sure where they got this but I'll assume it's closet to the truth after my experiences with the drug...

I would love to hear some suggestions for things I can watch. I am pretty much addicted to Netflix right now. I wonder why I didn't it long ago...
