Hey Bluelight!
Name's the same as the username... I don't care about anonymity anymore for this topic.
We live in exciting times. The psychoactive paradigm is shifting... our policies will shift with it.
In and around my part of the world (Melbourne, Australia), I see a vibrant, caring and active community of people, many of which indulge in alternative psychoactive substances.
From what I see and hear from people who come from elsewhere and from my internet-venturing, I see this culture is a global one.
We are still developing the new frameworks by which we can approach the psychoactive world and probe it deeper. We are to consciousness research what alchemy was to chemistry. It's chaotic, there's a lot of nonsense about... there are grand ideas and hopes, but at its core is a curiosity about the mechanism of these consciousness-shifting and altering plants and chemicals.
How do they do that? What does it mean for who we are and our waking and dreaming states?
On a personal note - I will be running for the Victorian state election for the Australian Sex Party in November 2014. I worked with the harm reduction community and other drug law reformers to put together the ASXP's drug policy. I would love to hear comments on it as it is always a work in progress: http://www.sexparty.org.au/federal-drug-policy.html
I'm on Twitter.
I also produce a podcast called Enpsychedelia.
That also has a Twitter.
And a Facebook page.
Lovely to meet you.
