Benzos I want to gauge my drug use - what dangers should I be aware of?

After reading your family background I would be definitely concerned about your current drug use. Remember that you do not have to make the same mistakes as they have done. Drug addiction can lead in personal growth at best, but there are other (less painful) ways to accomplish that too.

As what everyone else said, with your family background I would deffinatly be careful. My dad was an alcoholic, as was his dad, and his dad's brother (Not sure what that makes him to me) had problems with coke. My uncle on my mother's side served in the air force, and while stationed in thailand (I think it was at least), got into heroin and it really wrecked him, although he is clean now and just drinks occasionally. While I don't have a problem with alcohol, I do with opiates and benzos. I have friends who use xanax recreationally without any signs of addiction. What I guess I'm getting at is that addiction is that if your parents and other family members have had drug problems, you are more prone to them. But you probably already know that.

If you were to ask the majority of addicts, they all had lines that they crossed after justifying it to themselves (Such as what could happen with the line you said you have drawn in your mind with heroin and what you did with amphetamines). I don't think anyone wakes up one morning and decides theyre going to go get addicted to heroin, it's a gradual process.

Alot of what addiction is, at least for me, is psychological. Which is why weed can deffinatly be addictive. If you feel yourself smoking it for something other than having fun, and using it more compulsively or because you feel you need it, I would watch it. Use caution with it. Enjoy yourself, but try and recognize when it's no longer enjoyment, and more of just doing it because you always do, if you understand what i'm saying.

Synthetic weed is terrible. A friend of mine (Not SWIM shit, this was actually a friend, not me) had a horrible addiction to spice. She used for maybe 6 months, and after quitting had withdrawl symptoms very simmilar to what I experienced with roxys. For months afterwards, she experienced intense depersonalization, thought she was going insane, awful depression, etc. Before using it, she was a really normal, happy person. Since that, she hasnt really been the same (Although, I only knew her for about a year before this happened, but from what I knew of her then, it's what I saw). She uses anything to get high nowadays, binging on dxm, concerta, etc. and is just pretty down most of the time. The same thing has happened to a number of people I know who used spice alot. I personally only smoked it once and hated it. I'm very against it, and would strongly advise you not to smoke it anymore and just stick with actual weed. I'd hate to see that happen to anyone else.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you know yourself better than anyone, if you recognize that your developing a problem, to cut back or quit, or seek help.

Wow cheers guys,

Yeah I'm doing Chem/Process Eng. which could one day lead to pharmaceuticals, but with a mining boom my focus will be there.

I'm going to be careful going forward.

thanks

I don't have ADD but adderall helped me study. I had to be in the mood for it though. If I took it when I probably wasn't gonna study anyway, I would feel the high, realize I'm bored and go do other things. If I was already gonna study and took some it would help me stay up longer and get it done.

Taking tests on adderall is hit or miss. Either you know the answers or you don't; drugs aren't gonna change that. But if you did all your studying on adderall, then it would make sense to take the test on adderall. Something about being in the same state of mind you were in while you were studying helps you on the test.

Nobody can tell if you're an addict or not, just be honest with yourself, that is all you need at that point. Just think deep for what you are using each substance. One very obvious sign for addiction for me at least is the tendency to make excuses and basically lie to myself. And of course watch for the frequencies and dosages.

Btw. I would quit the cigarettes first. It's the worst shit human kind has ever come up with.

Classic...totally agree about the cigarettes!

As long as you continue to ask yourself if you can stop, monitor your usage, and remember that it is very easy to convince yourself you dont have a problem, you should be good. If you catch yourself fiending, lying, stealing, or trying to justify strange behaviours all in the name of a drug, then you may have a problem. Since you sound relatively new to drugs, I'd recomend the same thing I did when I started, make sure to leave 5-7 days between using an addictive drug. This will help prevent physiological addiction, which I have never had a problem with, but beware the psychological addiction. Thats my biggest problem.

One thing to consider is that your preferences, tolerance, and desires can change as you get older. So you may have found a study guide for now, but that may turn into recreational use as you get older.

I used to smoke trees daily in my teens and 20s. I thought I'd just be a stoner for the rest of my life. Now I have little desire to smoke, but love drinking and blow. Never saw that coming. I'd probably avoid everything except alcohol if I could do it over.

Also consider that access and ability to pay can increase in a professional setting. That's really what got me started with the harder shit. It's easy to fall into that trap.

Anyways, be safe and have fun.
