ive never iv'ed anything before and i got some b&d syringes so i thought what the hell
and all i can get my hands on is some focalin ir 5mg tablets
no micron filter
whats a i got some really compact cotton made for stopping a nose bleed though
also how bad would it be to just inject it without a filter ,only once though

Focalin (dexmethylphenidate hydrochloride) also contains the following inert ingredients: pregelatinized starch, lactose monohydrate, sodium starch glycolate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and FD&C Blue No.1 #5516 aluminum lake (2.5 mg tablets), D&C Yellow Lake #10 (5 mg tablets); the 10 mg tablet contains no dye.

Short answer: you will need a micron filter to remove microcrystalline cellulose. I know it is specifically not good for your body. I don't think pregelatinized starch will be particularly good for you either but it should also require a micron filter if it's properties are similar to that of regular corn starch (I wouldn't know as I didn't include it in the original version of the thread, I can always make changes to it as I do more research). Lactose is another inactive ingredient which might require a micron filter to remove all of it, whereas a cotton may remove the larger particles of lactose, there can be smaller particles of lactose than cotton can even filter out.

You can tell this by looking up the particle size statistics in the aforementioned thread, and going off of the knowledge that compacted cotton can only get to be 50um pore size at best (over 200 times larger than the size of the pores in the final filter layer of the brand of micron filters I use).

I personally recommend not IVing for the first time if you can't get a micron filter first. You haven't started IVing drugs, so you have no reason to start right away without getting the right harm reduction supplies first.

As far as "how bad would it be to do it this way just once?" - we really cannot tell you much, other than the fact that you should be fine based on others' experiences, however, it really does only take one missed shot which hasn't been micron filtered to cause an abscess. It is all too easy for bacteria to enter your shot without micron filtering or using preservatives. A cotton filter will not filter out bacteria, and if the piece of cotton you are using has any bacteria in it, it will potentially enter the solution when you use it to filter out whatever particles are large enough to be filtered out.

You might get away with one shot, with ten, a hundred, a thousand, but eventually, not using micron filters and injecting pills WILL catch up to you. If you miss at all, the difference is very noticeable. I can personally attest as I rarely miss now, but if I do, the subcutaneous swelling will be gone rather quickly and the inflammation, discoloration, is only temporary.

Before I started micron filtering, if I missed a part, any, or all of a shot, it would take literally many hours to even a day or longer for the botched injection site to heal completely. When you are a regular injecting drug user, this is a huge difference, as your vein you may be planing on using later in the day, may all of the sudden be out of commission for even longer if you miss a shot without micron filtering.

In the end, it is obviously your call. Please do your research - it won't cost you a lot of money to invest in one micron filter, one luer lock syringe, and the S&H, and it would only take a few days until it arrives.

In case anything goes wrong, you'll have a lot less to worry about if you use a micron filter. Especially since you haven't IV'd before, it's a good idea not to inject for the first time (with pills nonetheless) without a micron filter. Especially if it's something like what you have (lots of inactive ingredients).
