i will hopefully be graduating from university of miami in december with honors i have a double major
psychology and motion pictures

i feel like i messed up though i mean psych is cool and all but its pretty much the equivalent of a general studies major unless you go to grad school
and motion pictures.... i picked it cuz i like movies... i think they are neat and i like watching them..... so i picked it as a major... wtf was i thinking... seriously i have almost zero desire to go into the film business and the only film classes i liked were the film studies ones.... rrrg looking back i feel like any other communication school major would have been a better choice... journalism, advertising, public relations
its too late to go backwards but i am also scared i feel pretty ill prepared for the real world... i
have no idea how to enter the work place or what i want to do when i "grow up" which has to be
pretty soon because i am pregnant
i know a lot of this anxiety is normal but seriously i have to write a 60 page screenplay for my
writing for series tv class.... omg and its only a 300 level class... i dont even like screenwriting at
all
plus its annoying me how everyone thinks i want to get into the film business just cuz of my
major
and i am worried about my attention span and ability to complete my screenwriting class and my directing class... because i am preggers had to get off add meds and even women who never struggled with the issue can get "baby brain" basically decreased attention span and forgetfullness
anybody else have these issues...

I'll only say two things:
1.) Many, many people end up working in fields unrelated to their major in college.
2.) Just do your best to finish the class, breathe deeply, put one foot in front of the other, and it'll probably turn out all right in the end. I know that sounds like ridiculous optimism, but it's usually the case.

+1
You will never regret finishing. Doors will open when you least expect it and often in places you would have never guessed.
Congrats

You always have a lot of options in terms of graduate programs, too. If you decide to go to grad school, it doesn't necessarily have to be in psychology. Granted, you can't just jump into a physical sciences graduate program without taking a lot more background courses, but you have much of the humanities/social sciences available to you as options.

I nearly did not finish for similar reasons. I can say whole heartedly however that I am extremely pleased with my decision to stick it through. I have a college degree and have moved to career / life pathways that interest me. Without the degree this would be infinitely harder for numerous reasons.

Always remember that graduate school is an option after you take some time to live in the "real-world" and figure out who you are as a person. Figure out what you want to do and then if a graduate degree is necessary for that....get it. If not, then do don't and keep living happy. Not many people pick the perfect career at 18 years old so you are most definitely not alone, stay strong and do what makes you happy.

I'd just finish you'll have a degree.

I know people who studied film and they found out they hated the film world so they do graphic design work on computers, and do things totally unrelated to film.

^ yah i came to the conclusion the film world was def not for me because of school in some ways.... esp the trip to LA

My main reason for writing this is that I am struggling through my last couple classes..... and I am nervous about finding a career....
I mean at least majors like accounting or nursing set you up for a career...
i couldnt feel less ready for the professional world...

Congratulations on your baby to be! Just finish your coursework, you'll get through it.
Eventually, the career will come so don't stress.
