So I ended up blacking out on benzos and passed out laying on my leg for 5 hours, i woke up with no movement.
It's been a couple of days and I still cant lift my foot, I went to the hospital and they said I have nerve damage, aka foot drop.

They said it may never heal, which makes me panic.

Has anyone had this experience and have they healed from it?

Thanks guys..

I passed out on my arm a couple of years ago and woke up with a limp wrist. I went to the ER but they said I had to see a specialist to be diagnosed(They also said it may or may not get better). I didn't have the money at the time so I diagnosed myself as having radial nerve palsy. It took about 4 months before I was able to really start moving my wrist and a couple of the fingers. I now have 95% function, I say 95 because my hand feels weaker and I have arthritic pains.

Thank you for this, it gives me hope.
I have been trying to stretch and rotate my foot to help make it stronger.
I'm hoping this gets better soon, they gave gabapentin to help.

Give it a time. Nerves heal slowly. I couldn't walk for the first six months after my accident in Afghanistan and after that I had to use cane for years.

Currently I can do pretty much everything including playing soccer and practising martial arts although not at full contact.

Just keep doing stretches into a point you start feeling pain and don't stretch any longer or you will get more nerve damage. Physiotherapy will help if you can get it covered by insurance or can otherwise afford it.

I have no insurance sadly,
but i have been doing foot work outs and rotations to help, it's maybe 10% better, not walking that much with a limp, but still stagger a bit because my foot drags.
I'm trying to keep positive that my foot will be 100% soon enough.

i had nerve damage in my arm for the longest time. I went to rehab at a traditional native culture based rehab and going to the sweat ceremonies seemed to have helped me get feeling back. I have also heard of people utilizing hyperbaric chambers to help heal nerve damage in people with diabetes as well.

There are definitely treatments out there and things you can do to help. My theory is that the sweat ceremonies, the moisture and the heat helped stimulate the areas affected and encouraged healing.

I'm so sorry to hear that, w0w.:( Try not to worry about the long-term of it--just take it day to day doing everything you can (the rotations sound good as well as maybe finding a sauna or even hot baths?). There are so many acupunture schools where I live and they will often treat for free if they are training people. Also, there are acupuncture "lounges" where treatments may be only 20 dollars because you are in a quiet room with other people (until someone starts snoring!;)).

Ouch - I hope you feel better soon! I agree with herbavore - look into acupuncture and keep doing physical therapy. Good luck!

Sauna will definately help if you can find one in your area. In Finland pretty much every apartment and house has one and we use them often.

For the heat to help it should in my opinion be atleast +80 degrees celsius in a sauna and plenty of saunas outside Scandinavia have much lower temperature and more moisture in my experience and body won't start to sweat so easily. Often boxing gyms and similar have real saunas as their customers use sauna to drop their weight when going into match so they fit into the given weight class.

Went into one in the states and turned the knobs myself and the staff came pretty quick to tell me that I am in danger because it is so hot inside the sauna :P

I hope you recover soon. Maybe try Epsom Salt baths? They are very therapeutic and perhaps may help? They help me manage chronic pain. Thinking of you - take care.

I had foot drop a few years ago. They did emergency surgery to get my disc off the nerve. My leg came back to normal after 7 weeks... If you loose that nerve, they cannot help. You need surgery

My husband was diagnosed with it. He was prescribed Gabapentin, which did not help and he didn't take it long.

Physical therapy, daily walking in a warm pool and sauna helped immensly.
It's been a year and he is so much better.

He was so bad a year ago that he was on crutches.
Now he can walk a couple of miles

Hey man, thought I'd drop in and say hi. I had radial nerve palsy in my right hand. Pretty sure it's the same thing except you had it in your foot. That was a freaky morning waking up and not being able to lift my dominant hand. I think it lasted about 6 weeks until I regained full use of it again.

How many days do you have off everything? Off the benzos too? Congrats man!! I'm 3 days off everything myself.

I'm doing good still!
It's been almost 2 weeks off of everything, I do take gabapentin for the nerve palsy which helps a lot.
I take 600mg 3 x a day, I don't want to get addicted to it though, I hear WD can be pretty crappy :(

Yea gabapentin can cause a withdrawal that is like a twisted opiate benzo withdrawal..and it can mess with cognitive abilities
