I've been addicted to opiates and dextromethoraphan for a little over a year now, mostly pills. I've been taking as much as I can get my hands on. A couple months ago I was hospitalized because I accidentally took too many pills. I became unconscious and my friend called an ambulance because she thought I was dead. It was at that point I realized that I needed help. I'm not using as many as I used to, but I'm really trying to quit this time. The withdrawals are just so hard -- the sweating, shaking, irritability, and diarrhea suck ass. Any recommendations as far as quitting?? Cold turkey versus tampering??

I never have the strength to taper, it they're there, fuck it I'm taking em.

Besides, tapering IMO is still painful and fuck all that, I'd rather just ride it out and get it over with. A lot of people feel different, that's just my 2 cents.

I'm on day 4 now, trying to get to day 5

I'm so glad you found your way here and are asking for help. What an accomplishment man congratulations. I used the Thomas recipe to lessen my wds. Clonidine does wonders for sweats chills and anxiety. Careful with benzos, but they help me with similar symptoms. L-tyrosine does wonders for your energy levels and it's all natural. I would suggest holding off on those till clean day 4.

What's your work schedule like? Do you have mandatory shit to Do every day?

i have always said that the best way to get off a drug is to wean. no rush, even if you are slowly making pregress, your still making progress (just not too slowly!). im sure you have before or possible do currently, but maybe try smoking weed. weed is safe and (although not as intense) is a good substitute for drugs (especially ones like opiates and dxm), and is very frequently used as a tool to get off of hard drugs.

if you already smoke weed, well smoke more loll. you can never smoke too much weed, and whenever you have the craving to do drugs, just smoke a bowl. one of my friends was hooked on his prescription meds for years. then i started getting him into weed, and now he doesnt take them at all, and in fact now he trades his pills for weed.

I tried tapering a few times but ended up doing the same thing. If I had the pills, I would take them all then struggle with cold-turkey the next day. Glad you've made it to day 5!

OP, the withdrawals will be hard. To make them easier I might suggest getting some loperamide (immodium) from the store. You don't have to go nuts with them but it will certainly help your symptoms. You can get through this, Good luck and welcome to Bluelight! <3

I'm off this weekend so I've decided to give it a go. Tomorrow marks day #1 for my sobriety and I'm not looking forward to facing all the cravings. What do yall do to stem them??

I've researched the Thomas recipe and have heard both positive and negative things about it, but I'm willing to try anything. I just don't want to wind up dead in the streets somewhere. Where do you get the clonidine and L-tyrosine from? My work schedule rotates. I'm a waitress so my hours are crazy. I work some days, some nights. What do you mean by mandatory shit? lol

I occasionally smoke weed, but have been spending most of my money on pills. I just don't want to jump from one addiction to another if you know what I mean. But thanks for the suggestion!!

Hey daybyday.. Addiction is a complex thing and it often takes a person radically changing many things in their life. These changes often lead to a really amazing life.
Addiction Guide
The medications I would explore the use of fror detox would be:
>Clonidine< DOSED EVER FOUR HOURS..
one of either
>NEURONTIN< >HERE< >HERE<
OR >Lyrica<
OR >Phenibut<
>A BENZO BUT JUST AT NIGHT<
>a nsaid<
>melatonin<
tylenol

You will need to use the benzos and the GABA analogs responsibly and stop them promptly when you get through the withdraws as if you continue to take them you may develop a physical dependence. But if taken in a proper manner IMHO you have nothing to worry about. Use of the loperamide to combat withdraws can get pretty dicey as I have seen many people just trade their addictions with this technique.

The L-tyrosine can be picked up a nutritional place it a precursor to dopamine and other neuro chemicals. It may help with the cravings. Many people use support groups to combat their addictions here are some links to explore about some different support groups.

You can do this:D

Consider detox. Most company's HR department will give you a waver, if you explain your situation. You don't have to say that you're on illegal drugs. Claim that you were scripted, but need to get off because you've become physically addicted.

Shit, I've told many managers that I'm a dope fiend and need to seek treatment. They never used it against me.

If you can't afford detox, set aside a few days to do nothing. Accept you will feel ill. Rent some movies, and just hold on. You can do it.

As for the cravings, they'll come and go. Initially they're constant, but they fade. IMO, most important thing to do is keep yourself busy. Pick up a hobby, if you can. Hang out with family, friends. Work a lot. Get absorbed in something. Sometimes, if I'm craving really bad, I'll make myself some piggy food.

Also, JOIN A GYM. Exercise is seriously amazing for addicts

Merry Christmas! Day #5 has been a struggle with all the chaos of the holiday, but I've managed to stay sober somehow. This is the first Christmas I can remember being clean either with pills or alcohol. It's been tough but I'm making it. Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas to you DBD. I am winding down Day 13 and it's been quite chaotic for me too. I can't imagine the struggle 5 Days in. SO. FUCKING. PROUD. OF. YOU. You're a bear my friend, that just shows your strength.

I know EXACTLY where you're coming from regarding this being the first Christmas without (for me) opiates, cocaine, and/or alcohol. Thinking about you every day man. Keep it up, stay strong, and most importantly, understand that the shit you're going through will get better. You can't give a timeline on it, everyone's different with their recovery times. It all depends on how badly you want it, and I know you WANT this.

Great job on staying sober on a day like this. Huge accomplishment. Stepping off soap box now. Goodnight, sweet dreams, we're proud of you.

With love and support, TTGB<3

OP, How much opiates do you take on average? Is it enough to warrant a buprenorphine substitute treatment, or taper, i've allways found stopping opiates to be far more easy than staying clean and not relapsing, IMO it is better to be stable on bupe than living a "yoyo life" going up and down on pain pills. That being said it takes a great amount of courage to quit, you are probably quite busy at the moment, during the x-mas period, which is good, it helps to keep your mind focused on your objective but also on various activities i presume you have been partaking in, which brings me to my second point.

As for the DXM, there i don't think there are any physical withdrawals, but the psychological part may be difficult, this is why i would allways recommend someone who is going to get clean to plan what they are going to fill the time and void previously consumed with drugs by.

For this it would be good to get some background information on you, how old are you? are you working? studying? Single? What hobbies do you have etc.

Keep up the effort, and if you feel you're going to relapse, or have a serious craving is there anyone you can talk to, often it can just take talking to someone about how you're feeling for a bit, to get past the craving. The longer you go without the substances, the more the cravings will be sparce.

Good luck friend!

Day #6 - today has been a long, tough, busy day at work. I've had lots of urges but haven't acted on them. I wait tables and this time of year people seem more irritable and less generous with their servers. It's just been a long day, ill leave it at that.
