Ok, I have either been abusing lyrica or gabapentin in the last two longest years of my life. I want clean. I don't want to live like this anymore. I'm always depressed and when I take gabapentin in large dosages I get euphoria. So my doc wants me on depakote not that he knows my addiction to gabapentin but as a better option. I can't be trusted with gabapentin. So if I make up my mind I can get out of my depressive bouts that I think are caused by abusing gabapentin. It's like shaking a can of soda. My gaba system is all messed up. Depakote doesn't run the risk of abusing. So guys I'm asking for opinions. What should I do?

I think that you should tell your doctor that you've been overusing your gabapentin. This way he can taper you down gradually. I'm afraid you might suffer from withdrawals if you stop using abruptly, especially from high doses.

I was taking 800 mg four times a day and he lowered it to three times a day.....It just never sunk in that I need to listen to my taper program and not mess this up for myself. I just want the dreams/Nightmares and depression to go away. I hope this is the best recoarse.

I would just get honest with your doctor for starters, we cannot really give you medical advice here.

Like I said, Go get honest with your doctor. Maybe try some meetings, they are free and you can just say "drugs" or "substance", often its encourage to not name specific drugs anyways.

Please talk to a doctor about this. Drugs that manipulate the GABA receptors are not to be played with. If you want off you need a taper plan.

+3 to everyone else's comment. Don't mess with GABA, talk to your doctor. I got seizures from that stuff, it's not worth the risk of trying to figure it out on your own.

Yeah, not be a broken record but if you don't tell your doc you are going to have a brutal, brutal withdrawal. Like Crimson said, GABA receptors will make you pay for fucking with them.

And Depakote won't do anything for your withdrawals, in fact, it will probably make you feel worse. Antipsychotics can have some rough side effects.

Totally not trying to be harsh, but every responder has said the same thing for a reason - your only options are to tell the doctor and hope he tapers you or go through CT withdrawal. I've CT'd off a benzo habit and let me tell you, it was horrible. I heard gabapentin WDs are similar. If your doctor won't taper you, find one that will. It should be pretty painless that way. You will feel better when your brain heals, and it will if you give it some time! Good luck
