hey all
just wondering...I know I know I sound cheap, but I was so in the moment I just bought the marquis package thinking it tested for MDA and MDE which I have now found out... it does not.

HAVE any of you used the marquis enough to tell (if there even is any) a difference in colour change for an MDA or MDE pill, withOUT using the second test (I'm broke and etc etc)...like maybe it goes kind of violet then black, and MDMA goes black with smoke.. etc etc, anybody?

does MDMA do one thing and one thing only and MDA do one thing and one thing only, I mean there must be a difference in the colour somewhere, I sure as hell popped something I think is MDA and it's VERY different from an MDMA high..then again I wont know until I test.

Congrats on getting your Marquis reagent!

Unfortunately, it does not allow you to see the difference between MDMA and MDA, or MDE (which is a rare find these days anyway). There is no difference in color change for any of those substances with the Marquis either. The only two tests that can tell you whether something is MDMA or MDA, are the Simons reagent, and the Robadope reagent.

Second, MDMA only goes black with fizzing and smoke if it's 100% (or damn near) pure. If it's cut with anything, or there's binding agent, it won't do that. The only time I've ever had the Marquis give that kind of reaction, was from testing pure MDMA crystals.

MDA and MDMA are different. If you've had MDMA before (and you're sure), you won't have any problem discerning the difference. Believe me, it's noticeable. It's more speedy, and you'll DEFINITELY notice a difference in the comedown. It can get trippy. MDA can also induce visuals. (MDA is known as "Ol' Speedy" to some old-school people), and it isn't as "loved-up" as MDMA is.

Here's a list of what the Marquis DOES test for (this list was pulled from http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/mdma...ing_kits.shtml):

2-AminoIndan- Orange to Red (slightly rusty)
2C-C- Starting brown going to Dark Lime Green (similar to 2C-B)
2C-D- Very light pink
2C-E- No reaction (!?)
2C-I- Dark Green to Black
2C-T-2- Orange to Red (usually a sort of salmon color)
2C-T-4- Orange to Red (usually a sort of salmon color)
2C-T-7- Orange to Red (salmon, again; also, there is less tendency towards orange than 2C-T-2 shows)
3C-P- Orange
4-Acetoxy-DiPT- Dirty (blackish) olive
4-Methyl-Aminorex (u4euh)- no color change
4-MTA- no color change
5-MeO-DiPT- Fizzes then turns yellow quickly changing to a slightly rusty orange
Alpha-Methyl-DiPT- Fizzes then turns brown
AMT- Dark brownish-yellow
BDB- Dark brown, nearly black
Benzylpiperazine (BZP)- No color change, but it causes the reagent to fizz. Looks like when you pour hydrogen peroxide on a cut.
DiPT- Fizzes strongly then turns a neon yellow
DPT- Dirty olive
Harmine- Fizzes slightly, much less so than BZP, and turns a brown-orange rust color.
IAP- Immediate reaction to salmon/red, slowly intensifies to a darker red over 1min.
MBDB- Dark Brown to Black
Methylone- Yellow
Opiates- Pink to Purple
Phenolphthalein- Crimson
PMA- No color change
TMA-2- Lime Green (similar to 2C-B)
TMA-6- Yellow to Orange
Yohimbine- Fizzes slightly, much less so than BZP. Slowly (up to a minute), it will turn an olive green color.

Hope this helps you out!

Good luck!

(Thanks to RB for the link to these test results!:D [pulled from another thread])

it definitely helped me out alot, thanks for your time !!!! however that link didnt take me anywhere :) it's ok I'm avid erowid user I can find it

Marquis can't differentiate although I have found that Mandelin's reagent will turn a deep red color before going purple, and that MAY be an indicator of MDA. I've seen that reaction a few times and only on pills that were believed to have MDA in the first place.

Sorry I know that wasn't really part of your question but I thought it might help...waterheart pretty much said all that needs to be said.

Just read this thread, sounds like you know a bit about these reagent tests.
I've posted a thread elsewhere but maybe you could shed some light on this..

Using the Mandelin reagent the test sample turned olive green within 30sec or so. also developed red/pink spots on the edges of the solution.
at the 1min mark these spots increased in size and after 2mins the whole solution was bright (purple crimsom) red colored.

the color chart suggests that in the first color change to olive green indicates speed or amphetamine, what I don't understand is the second longer color change from olive to crimson red

any ideas?
