I have used sublingual xanax with desired effect 10/10 times for the last to going on 15 years... I haven't taken alprazolam therapeutically via the oral route because the sublingual route is so damned effective and is so much better than IV alprazolam.... I haven't taken it orally in probably 5 years and haven't abused it in many many years because what the hell is the point of abusing xanax, the only reason I know people who abuse benzos use to justify their abuse, Im not judging what level justifies the abuse, be it of trauma, childhood, violence, stupidity, giving in to peer pressure without being knowledgeable about what they're doing first, or whatever reasons that lead people to justify their benzo abuse, but I mean recreationally??
What's the point, I don't condone the abuse of ANY drug, but out of all things that produce absolutely no desired effects in my recreational perspective of what desired effects mean. I don't think that sedation, amnesia, less control with inhibitions, all of these especially in those who are new (or very old) to benzo habits and those who take high doses seeking this.... whatever desired effects I can't understand.
The risk of overdosing when combined with other common CNS depressants is just so high people underestimate alprazolam ALL the time and they don't even understand how potent a 2mg xanax bar is even to chronic long time users, potency wise I'd say it's the "methamphetamine" of benzos, with zero of the desired effects brought on by methamphetamine, but the thing they do have in common is that reckless abuse is absolutely horrific to a person's health, lifestyle, wellbeing, relationships, decisionmaking and common sense decay, etc.
Except with benzo abuse you have to worry about the debilitating and life threatening withdrawals if not tapered off effectively and alprazolam is a horrible single agent therapeutic treatment for cessation, you should wean off using strong anticonvulsants (of which alprazolam is NOT one) such as diazepam which is primary long-acting taper benzodiazepine of choice in my unofficial opinion, clonazepam and lorazepam are also potent anticonvulsants but I have found them unacceptable for tapering.
These bars fuck up your judgement especially over time, I think you're making a good choice if you decide to take a break (if you're dependent switch to diazepam and get help with getting off safely dont rush it if you're dependent.).
It's an easy habit to fall back into, like smoking cigarettes, but once you stop for a while you will notice improvements that make it worth it to stop abusing it. You'll come to your senses about a bunch of random things important, unimportant, life changing or maybe just a good lesson to learn from. However the longer you have been abusing benzodiazepines and the higher the dosage and WAY more important is how LONG you have been taking them CONSISTENTLY.
Seriously reconsider what you proposed doing and think about the risk you're putting yourself against vs the zero reward end result.
